Having owned two Disco 1's when I needed a new 4x4 5yrs ago I really waned to buy a Disco 3. However, having read tons of reviews & watching YT vids I was too scared by the thought ofbody off Turbo replacement scenario. Consequently I pulled the trigger on a Range Rover TD6 L322. I love the old girl & won't be parting with her too soon but would've loved the practicality of the Disco 3. As it happens my brother has a Disco 4 and two of my daughters have (or had) Disco 3's with no major problems. 👍

Fantastic video and awesome channel! How come I haven't stumbled on these before? =) I've been searching for used Disco 3 for some time, but they're getting hard to find in my country, especially reasonable mileage ones... It's also hard to find an alternative for Discovery, nothing really compares to it directly. My next best option is a WK Jeep Grand Cherokee, it has better diesel engine and repairs are slightly cheaper, but then again the Discovery beats it in practicality (I could use the extra 7 seats every now and then) and interior quality, plus it's also a tad better on road.

Thanks Janne for the positive feedback, we are trying hard to build the channel. I also agree on the Jeep not being quite as good on the road, also the Disco is the best vehicle out of any for towing.

Good video and very informative. As for the crank issue, thats on the disco 4 with 3.0 TDV6/SDV6 engines.

Crank snapping is a D4 issue. Main problem with D3 is oil pump housing fracturing, causing catastrophic engine failure.

Yep, most D3's have or should have had their oil pumps replaced by now.

@@JayTeeCars I think "most" is overstating it! Owners who are members of forums like disco3.co.uk will know about the issue because it's been discussed a lot on there. But I'd be prepared to bet that there are a lot of 07/08 D3s still driving around out there with the weakened oil pump casting, driven by owners who aren't LR fans, who don't spend time on owners' and enthusiasts' forums (like we do!), and who are blissfully oblivious to the fact that the front end of their engine stands a chance of disintegrating catastrophically! Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it because in the video (at about 7 minutes in) you talk about there being a crank issue with the D3, but the snapping crank is a D4 thing, whereas the main cause of D3 failure seems to be the oil pump casting issue (with the exception of very early or very late models).

I've had mine for 5 months now and love it. I've always wondered if mine has a rear locking diff. It does have the rear (green) lock symbol, however I have never tested it.

The green open lock is shown on vehicles with and without, if you see it turn red then you have a locker or have a look underneath, it looks a bit like a starter motor next to the diff. If I get a chance I will take a photo. You might be lucky but I think less than 5% have them fitted, as it was an expensive option.

You can check the specs of your vehicle with Land Rover VIN decoder. Enter you Vin number and it will tell you all the specs.

Did you make a video of how you removed the roof rack surround? It looks like a genuine LR expedition roof rack with the sides removed?

It is an LR Expedition rack, but it already had the top removed when I purchased it second hand.

Quick question. If you replace the air suspension with terra firm shocks.. Does it affect the 4*4 info readings?

Not sure, but I guess it would as you would disconnect the J Rods and sensors.

Check the air suspension by simply selecting up and down, it should take about 30 seconds to adjust to each height. HSE come with panoramic roof.

Thanks for the video! I drive an LR3 in Canada. Petrol gets very poor mileage! Can I do a diesel conversion? Or should I import a disco 3 or a classic defender! Thanks again for the video and series 🙂

The 4.0l petrol v8 engines are the best and most reliable... if you're doing an engine swap for fuel economy it'll be important to consider how long it will take for that expense to pay itself off.

@@Armandinho8 the petrol gets about 10-11 MPGs, diesel gets about 25 MPGS. Would be a big deal for me as I'm trying to plan long trips. Plus diesel I can use alternative fuel to further cut down on cost.. too many visits to the gas station and in many remote places there are not many of them and start sweating, etc...

Only standard on HSE, optional on others. Lots of D3's about with sunroof, some people look out for them to avoid leaks.
