Great discussion guys, thanks! We run a fleet of 9 disco 4s. Purchased at 100k km. Now all over 200k km. They work very hard on gravel and tar every day. We’ve had all discos, including Range Rover sport tdv8, Lr4 is phenomenal, never have any issues. Best value for money on a second hand car out there!

Wyatt is a man that I've been massively impressed with. I once went to his lot to look at a disco 2 td5 many many years ago. I was a young person at that time. He simply handed me the keys to go for a drive on my own. I was so impressed that he trusted me with it. I wish him ALL success in future. May the Lord Jesus Christ God and His Holy be with him.

@@MarkVinewood I agree the Disco 5 looks to soft and curvy, its a great car don't get me wrong I've been in a few and they're really nice and luxurious and probably just as capable as the previous gen Disco but it just doesn't look it.

I had an LR3 - amazing engine, but it and had many oddball issues. I now have a 2012 LR4 with the V8 - zero problems/super reliable and perfect in nearly every sense. The transmission is much much better, the additional horsepower and the excellent reliability make it near perfect.

My LR3 is paid off the 15th of April 2020. Problem is I am driving a Toyota Fortuner for the last 4 years. I will never buy a Land Rover again. It is one of the best 4x4's by far. HOWEVER, the maintenance is unaffordable. Battery on the key goes dead? Order a new key from England. R5000 later... Very expensive battery. Have a vibration in 3rd gear under load? Change the oil. Oil only available at the dealer. R1000 a litre, (takes 07 liters), drive 40 km, tap it and put in another 07 liters @R1000 per litre. Plus R1800 for the filter for a grand total of R18000. And then you sell it. Trade it in at Landrover in Nelspruit. Paid R270 000, drove it 04 years with a immaculate service history. Best offer: R70 000. As I said, traded it in on a Fortuner (and I am not a Toyota Fanboy) but in the last 03 years I serviced and put on new tyres. That is it! I miss it's abilities but it's unreliability caused a lot of financial hardship to my family.

What is the currency you are discussing? When you say 200k and 300k for pricing this seems extreme. Brand new Discos in USA go between $65k and $80k.

Agree regarding changing auto trans fluid on d3. Lr dealer don't recommend doing it. Knowledgeable non franchised do recommend it. Obviously better to do it even though it is a pita job on this car. In North America d3 4.4 v8 more reliable than 5.0 d4. Recommend regular oil changes with very good synthetic 5w40 in 4.4 and will run for ever.

What sorts of problems does the 5.0 Jaguar V8 on Disco 4 have? I thought that the 4.4 was BMW's most problematic engine of the modern times with it eating VANOS valves and so on...
@Carsongore5 жыл бұрын
The 4.4 in the D3 is not a BMW engine it's a jag engine. By far one of the best engines to come out of Britain in a long time. It's basically bulletproof. The D4's 5.0 has timing chain issues and water pump issues.

shocked beyond belief, in Australia they won best off road car, that means they spend most of their life OFF ROAD in a workshop, accessing turbos and anything else is a nightmare, sorry i bought my d4, when it is going ok, it is amazing, towed a 3800kg load from Sydney to Sunshine Coast over steep terrain, the car is rock solid, but oh geeze the fault codes are never ending particularly, engine shutting down because of stability control and emergency brake warnings, restart the warnings go, it is so dangerous when this occurs on a busy highway, never again buy LR

Disco 3 unpleasant place to be....... really! Have you seen a 1980s defender? That is unpleasant. My sister died in one when it rolled in the fog. She died of hypothermia as there was no heater. RIP, Jill.
@edwardcharles97646 жыл бұрын
David Hayes friend of mine bought a defender and had to send it back to LR to get the oil leaks put in. An old school friend drowned with leaks in the cab when it rained one day and he couldn't open the door. It's real bad, my uncle needed a hip replacement due to years sitting on an angle to the pedals and then amputated his right arm, to avoid having to put it out the window in order to fit into the cab! Good news - LR have now stopped making them for the UK!
