One thing I have found handy when having to resort to using this system, you don’t have to wait for the “bong” sound, you can back up, see it’s not going to make it in square initially and you can put it in drive at any stage, move forward, and then return to reversing - auto park will continue as normal (don’t have to wait until told to shift and give more room).

"double yellow lines, just like outside a school - real parking experience here...." this made me chuckle..... so true....
@mda50034 жыл бұрын
At least it proved the armco barrier did stop it parking too close but why didn't it beep/bong or tell you off for parking on double yellow lines? I think JLR need to re-program this as I'm sure BMW's park assist would never allow it to park where it shouldn't....

I first tried this in the dealers car park, wide lanes and spaces, no problem, in the space first time. On the street/car park for real you get better at it and faster and of course you can ignore a spot that’s too narrow to allow door opening..

I would also imagine that you wouldn't be able to hear ANY of the bing or bong sounds over and above the noise made by the horns of impatient motorists queuing up behind you waiting to pass! But I guess the manoeuvres will speed up once more confidence is gained. ;-) PS. I'm also surprised that JLR hasn't accounted for extra space needed to exit/re-enter the vehicle comfortably without risk of damage to vehicles by opening doors in such close proximity to one another. Not something I shall be doing in my new Disco Sport any time soon! :-O

The reversing camera overlay shows predicted tyre path, door opening space and boot opening capability.
@rafflesnh4 жыл бұрын
@@andykoops3213 The Orange coloured dotted lines depicting the safe working width of vehicle including exterior wing mirrors, is not shown in the full Park Assist mode that Simon is demonstrating here. However, I believe it does show the 2 short yellow horizontal lines for boot opening space. My concern was that when the car is checking for sufficient available parking space width (perpendicular parking only), it does not seem to take into account the extra space required to comfortably open the vehicle doors, something which the reversing camera overlay cannot assist with during that particular part of the procedure.
@andykoops32134 жыл бұрын
@@rafflesnh I agree. Perhaps the perpendicular parking mode should not start if width isn't wide enough to open doors. The parallel mode next to the armaco barrier left enough space 😁 PS I haven't tried the perpendicular mode yet as I never park my DS near anyone😇
@rafflesnh4 жыл бұрын
@@andykoops3213 Yes, likewise, I agree this perpendicular parking is a bit academic for me too! Although not taken delivery of my D/Sport yet, I have traditionally avoided perpendicular parking spaces with most of my cars, except during the early 'banger' years! :-D

Do you have to select "Perpendicular Parking" when looking for a space? I am not impressed with the Discovery 5 just yet but still watching as I hope are the Land Rover Muppets.

No one of the cool things was that is did actually determine that itself - so no need to select parallel or perpendicular.

Parallel parking was much better and I noticed it lined the kerb up with the yellow guide line. I guess for perpendicular parking it can’t allow space to open the doors because there are no parking spaces in car parks big enough unless like me you use a disabled parking space. Put simply British car parking spaces all need redesigning as cars are much wider these days than when the minimum size for boxes was designated. It’s all about cram as many in as you can to maximise the income stream from parking.

..."unless like me you use a disabled parking space". hmmm You might have gained some brownie points if this were an Audi or BMW channel, but I hope a more British sense of fair play applies here. But I shan't hold my breath. :-/
