Not looked at discos since the late 90s early 2000s, when did they get so expensive, and become luxury inside. They was a work horse, that you could take the kids to school in. Over the defender which was just a work horse. Sadly this is now yet another Chelsea tractor 😕

This SUV is simply too slow for its price. I know the fans would say: "It's an off-road vehicle!" Come on, in reality, how many owners of this SUV actually take it off road? And how often do they drive on paved street?
@minibus1351
@minibus1351 7 жыл бұрын
I always found land rover interiors subpar for the price to be honest. even the range rover doesn't have a great interior at 100k. i sat in one and thought damn, the volvo xc90 is at least twice as better than this.

minibus1351 Volvo sc 90 has a better interior than the Range Rover hse or autobiography? U must be kidding right. The Volvo sc has a nice interior but is no where on the level of what's in the Range Rover. I guess you don't like the simplistic design of the range rover that's the only gripe I think any one may have. But when it comes to using premium Materials oozing quality and colour combo of leather and wood I'm sorry the Volvo is miles behind.
@aysbg
@aysbg 7 жыл бұрын
@samson, you can't use "simplicity of the design" as an argument because Volvo's new interiors are everything but complex.
@samsonokoro5036
@samsonokoro5036 7 жыл бұрын
aysbg Just thought to bring up something a few people may have gripes with the Range Rover interior design. I don't see it as a problem nor did I say the Volvo is complex as well. Just that some may prefer the layout of the buttons and all on the Volvo compared with the Range Rover. But when it comes to use of quality materials and build quality the Range is ahead by a mile.
@minibus1351
@minibus1351 7 жыл бұрын
I've been in both of them, and volvo has arguably the most simplistic, easy to use design in the entire auto industry. Quality-wise, i'd say, yes it is up there with the Autobiography. The XC90 Inscription is covered in leather and high quality wood everywhere. It;;s build quality is also second to none. hardly any questionable materials to be seen. Have you been in both to compare? Because I have 3-4weeks of experience in both as a potential buyer.

I was saying the same thing. It looks exactly the same as a Discovery Sport, but the back may be a few inches longer. I'm trying to figure out why people are talking about this like it's a brand new design.
@goatmonkey2112

Here we go. On the Land Rover website, the wheelbase goes from 107.9 to 115 inches. The total length goes from 180.7 to 195.6 inches. So it's just slightly bigger on all of the dimensions. They offer V6s on the Discovery and the sport only gets a 4 cylinder. It seems like one called Sport should get more power. Maybe that's just me.

I like the design - it grows on you. I have the disco 4 but I think the new vehicle betters it in nearly every way which it should do as the disco 3/4 is a 12 year old model. As far as comparing it to the competition it certainly more practical than your Audi Q7(very bland looking car) or BMW X5 ( needs updating and still not practical enough). I like the Volvo XC90 but I think the Discovery edges it out. Actually I would go as far as to say that it is the best all rounder that Land Rover builds.

God it's horrible, the rear shape is like a Ssangyong and the overall look is like they've taken a Range Rover Sport and asked "how can we make it look a bit more utilitarian" rather than made an actual utilitarian car from the start. That towing feature is fantastic though and it does look very practical. Also if it's not body on frame, does that not hinder the off-roading? It feels a lot more like a 7-seat RR Sport than a Discovery.

Too many SUVs, I understand different sizes for cars, hence more rear room and boot space. But in an offroader you already have pleanty of space in say a Discovery Sport. This Discovery is very posh, isn't the higher end of Land Rover getting crowded with the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and now this?

It will grow on people, just like the 'Postman Pat' Discovery3 did. Can't say I'm a fan of the backend design, either from the back or, especially from the side. Mercedes did that side style back in 1999 on its ML model and I didn't like it then and I still don't like it. I went to a LR dealer around New Year time wanting to buy a Discovery 5, and I'd configured it beforehand and knew exactly what I wanted. The saleswoman was only interested in selling a Discovery Sport though and I didn't like her and she probably didn't like me, although all she had to do was take my order. But no, that was too easy for her. The result being that I'm taking delivery of a Volvo XC90 Inscription D5 on March 1st, next Tuesday. Before anyone comments, no I don't want to tow 3.5 tons and no, I don't want to ford deep water with it. I've got a couple of other vehicles that will do all that, and I can reverse perfectly well with a trailer on with some speed and precision without fumbling about with some nobs in the centre console. I would have waited for the Discovery 5 though, as in four cylinder guise with a few extras, it is actually relatively good value for money and is no doubt a superb vehicle. Pity about the dealer though. If it was the first time that dealer has mucked me about, perhaps I would have been more persistent, but it is not. Years ago I was in the market for a Range Rover. A 2005 model. I made an initial enquiry on the Saturday and told the dealer principal that I would be up with my family on the Monday to see it. We all went. On the Monday he refused to even open the door of the vehicle he had in stock for us to look inside. So I bought a Range Rover from a more obliging dealer who has since gone out of business. The same boss is in charge today, although I didn't talk to him this time.

I have been a big fan of the old Discovery and almost ordered one at the end of 2015 but stayed put when I heared it will ship not earlier than April 2016 and then the new model will have been unveiled. Well, at first I liked the new Disco but the more I see it (also in real life) the more - and this is unusual - I think it is an ugly looking car. I want a boxy old Land Rover, dammit! Also being a veteran IT guy of +25 years in business I do not like where new car designs are going. Touch screens are smeared with greasy fingers and can't be read in sunlight anymore (yeah, I've got one on my new 4x4). Give me back my switches and knobs. Seats that fold by buttons and apps? Cool, but prone to failure. When I checked out the new Disco at the Vienna car show in January it was set up with 7 seats. I wanted to lower the 2nd and 3rd rows to measure the boot and was not able to. The very nice woman from Land Rover Austria told me, that "sorry, this is not possible as the car's ignition is off". Fook that! When the warranty is over these modern cars will be scrap material. Or VERY expensive to fix.
