Land Rover Discovery Sport JLR EGR Design Flaw - Engine Management Warning Light On Again!

The engine management warning lights been on again for a while, not driven it much during lockdown so before taking it down to a garage and paying as much as £150 to get the code read at a dealer, I thought after some research I would give a relatively cheap OBD2 code reader bought off amazon a try, the Nexpeak NX501, amzn.to/36twU54, And it worked1 reads the code and more! So what did it reveal ? EGR! EGR! EGR! Bloomin EGR AGAIN! THESE LAND ROVERS ARE A NIGHTMARE WHEN IT COMES TO MAINTENANCE COSTS! EGR's are supposed to last 100,000 miles! Not less than 20,000! Blooming Discovery Sports pieces of garbage not made to last. Anyway check out my video because I am pretty sure there will be many land rover discovery sport owners out there with the SAME problem!

Thanks for the details. My Discover is 2017 with 94,547 km and I just got this problem. Hope it won’t cost that much. Waiting to get a call back with the cost for JLR.

Great video had me in stitches, why !! because I got a Jag F Pace with the same fault code and the same opinion of my Jag F Pace its cr@p. Both makes roll off the same production line with a filter designed by a 4 year old.

Seems like your EGR system is getting blocked quite often, which is a shame, as it seems to be a JLR issue. The majority of EGR systems on all brands end up being problematic at some point or the other, but you shouldn’t have a blocked EGR valve on a 19,000 mile car, let alone twice! Had cars with no EGR problems way past 70,000 miles. It’s a shame because it wasn’t like the before, until the EGR system was required to be fitted to diesel cars for emissions purposes. Hope you are able to get this problem sorted for as little money as possible. Great video :)

The filter takes about a couple of hours to change but the egr cooler filter shouldn't block up, it will only do so if the dpf is letting particulate matter through which means the dpf is scrap there could be under lying issues like LP or HP egr valve, fuelling issues, intake issues or even turbo issues. They are lovely cars to drive but so expensive to own. Hope you get it sorted mate.

Did you change the EGR yourself, probably it is not only the EGR filter , it could be EGR valve as well...

Got this code on my XF R Sport this morning. Spoke to a Jaguar specialist (not JLR) who said this is a common occurrence in these cars. He also said that they had customers replace their EGR blah blah blah and the issue just did not go away or kept repeating. I was advised to just use the OBD and erase the code and keep an eye out. So far fingers crossed the light hasn’t come back. The only thing I did different was that I drive the vehicle in eco mode for nearly 4 continuous weeks… thought that was harmless. But anyways it’s now on normal mode and also let some steam out this morning. Did a rapid 0-70 MPH (70 for legal purposes haha) to clear things out as I was advised by an experienced user that this process helps and should do it every now and then….

Yeh, I'm just ignoring it, not going to pay upwards of £500 for this scam will post an update if they car breaksdown. Good tip about turning ECO mode off, these cars look great drive well but built to expire quicker than a box of strawberries!

Thanks for putting these videos on the DPF and Discovery sport struggles! I'm going through same thing, just approx 6 months later🤦🏽‍♂️. Took it to Landover and had the EGR filter replaced 2 months ago, Same error just popped up! How much did you pay to fix the filter this time? Has it popped up since? Cheers.

Diesels no good for low mileage drivers , get the petrol version 👍

I drove a diesel zafira for 10 years without problems, disco sports are like little princeses, have to drive them just right else they drop dead.

@@Quantum_AI_Tech Phil is right. The Zafira is a much older car. Modern diesels have so much anti-pollution equipment and other systems like the EGR system that require the car to be driven regularly on long journeys at motorway speeds, otherwise these sorts of issues occur. Your mileage really doesn’t suit getting a diesel. Might get better fuel economy with a diesel, but those fuel savings will be cancelled out by the repair costs the will be generated by using a diesel for mostly town driving/low speed driving. I don’t know whether your car is still on finance or not, but if not, I would recommend selling your car and getting a petrol Discovery Sport/other car. You will get a good amount for your car because it’s low mileage and it’s also best to sell a diesel now, before they start significantly reducing in value as they’re phased out. A petrol will suit your driving style a lot more and you’ll have a much quieter ride, with no EGR issues :)
