Common Wrongly Diagnosed P049B-00 Land Rover 2.0 Ingenium EGR Flow Insufficient Flow Detected

Hi Jimmy, I'm at ex JLR master tech, they was a TSB for the 2.0 ingenim engine, DPF brick cracks and let's to much sort pass. Then that gets into the low pressure EGR cooler which has a filter, the filter blocks with soot and then you get low flow EGR 'B' (the low pressure Egr). Replacement DPF (new dpf pressure sensor as the pipe work is different on the new Dpf), clean out soot from the cooler and fit new filter. Don't just remove the cooler filter because the gas flow is directed in before the turbo turbine.

Thanks for the community service information... it might help some people avoid the pitfalls of spending money at JLR dealerships for no good reason... The only problem is are there good replacement parts obviously no sourced from JLR

Yup , same thing happened to me, spent 700 getting EGR cooler changed and only 1month later I had same fault....Cracked DPF was diagnosed else where at a cost of £3000 ....cazoo has my car now...

The fault would be less of a head scratcher problem if the diagnostic error code had an explanation more fitting to the condition.

Your videos are a great help, amazingly I have an Evoke in for exactly that today sounds like the dpf is rattling and the exhaust has soot, bad news for the customer only 43k miles

weirdly coming across your videos jimmy as my Jaguar XE 2.0 Ingenium has flagged up the EML light twice now and when plugging in shows the P049B-00 EGR B insuffcient flow but if I just keep driving it clears after a few drive cycles, I've done the "Finger" test and the tailpipe is clean as a whistle which makes me think it could be the EGR but since it clears by itself I'm not spending money on it until I get conclusive proof something is wrong! A very interesting watch this 1 jimmy. Never rated these vehicles and much better and reliable manufacturers out there making simulator stuff. I do tell my customers but some still buy them as they are good looking apparently

I'm on a Disco Sport Ingenium with the p049b-00 low flow, the exhaust gasses for the egr are taken down stream of the dpf to keep the gasses as clean as possible before returning to the egr and blocking it. I too have changed the filter that looked passable.

It appears there may be a group action lawsuit against JLR for using defective components. Your customer may be able to use this against JLR to get this repair covered under Warranty. Please get them to check this throughly as I only found it on a Google search to see how much a new DPF costs.

These Vehicles are not fit for purpose at all. Had a customer with this same fault a few days ago. 2022 model had 3 new dpf replacements already. 3 new egr cooler filters. A new cam chain. And it now needs a 4th dpf 30,000 miles 2 years old. Land rover said its wear and tear and due to the customer driving style

This is a good one Jimmy, on the scan tool why is the DPF pressure sensor voltage at 0V ? Normally there is a plausibility test ignition on at approx. 0.5V to check the DPF pressure sensor is functioning correctly, is this different on JLR vehicles ? Love ur video’s im a Ford tech myself …. Cheers

I have this fault code. DPF is fine, EGR is fine. I just keep clearing the codes with no issues so far. I've even passed the emissions MOT test (with the help of Wynns Gold diesel additive). 😂 As a matter of fact, this issue has made my evoque even more reliable.😂

Try to unmount your injectors and get them tested on a Commonrail injector test ramp. I'm 99% sure they will not pass the test.

nice explanation pitty dealers don't watch your videos .as their training aint working on a lot of basic dpf problems. there must be a better solution for some dealers ,as they seem to like to waste their customer money on thing that don't need replacing or not the actual reason for failure just after effect

I agree the engines are garbage, common problems are chains, cranks breaking dpf's egr's electrics etc..... but the people who buy these dont care these are bought for the image people think they have, i commend JLR marketing department that have managed to convice the gullable to part with a ton of cash for a garbage product, yet you will still see people defending them till death lol

@@bmwm5550these problems are mostly down the school run cars that never get on the open road. Ask any mechanic who rebuilds the failed engines & they’ll tell you the same. There’s half a million of these engines in various LR models. Lots haven’t broken because they get out on the open road & the DPF can regen etc. Whether the school run owners should ever have been sold a Euro6 diesel in the first place is another matter entirely

The soot getting pass the dpf will make its way through the low pressure egr and eventually kill the turbo

But the egr low pressure gas is taken before DPF.. so no expectation of soot cleaning.. also it doesn't feed to turbo but engine air intake

What’s your solution if we don’t listen to the dealer? New DPF? I had the dealer change my DPF and now this error came on less than 20 thousand kms later.

@@shyne0032 the DPF on these I have customers who have to replace it every 6000 miles. So it's a very delicate system. Unfortunately it sounds like you need to replace the DPF and EGR cooler filter once again
