This car came to me in limp mode.
A quick drive and a scan revealed P1260 on the engine ecu.
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
I do appologise for all the uncertainty around the live data... my brain was also in limp mode... 😉

Great video thank you, same symptoms but i changed the fuel pump with aftermarket (much louder) and no difference, still too low pressure. Then i take out the unit in tank, which has filter on bottom, it was blocked with dirt ! I cleaned this and it works now perfectly !

Hi i have the TD4 w/h 2 pumps, on the 2nd pump (lift pump) fitted in the engine compartment should have minimum 1.8bar to work. Under 0.8bar ECU will cutoff the pump to preserve the injection pump. The LP pump gets typically 2.0-2.2bar @ 11.5V supply. The LP presure sensor should read at least 4.3-4.6V if pressure delivered by 2nd pump is ok. Judging by the sound and current fluctuating on the motor of the pump is definitively on the go and should be replaced asap (preferably before it dies completely). Also you could run into problems if HP sensor in the end of the common rail has a faulty conection /corroded etc. (i soldered conections to mine). On HP you need minimum 280bar to crank start, 300-350bar to idle correctly.

I had the same,iit was the low pump,bought new from ebay and ended up getting a wrecker when it packed up again..Third pump works fine so word of warning don't buy cheap.

Another great video my friend :-) A simple way to think about this would be to think of a jet wash that is connected to a garden tap with low water pressure or that has a kink in the hose, it will work sometimes but the randomly stop until in can build up a bit more pressure on the water supply.

The low pressure fuel pump is a common Freelander 1 TD4 problem. You could hear it when you started the engine with the old pump. A good TD4 should start quicker. When you listen to the start with the new pump you can hear the difference. It starts a little bit quicker and the TD4 growl is back on the first strokes of the engine. The older (mid 2002 and earlier) TD4 had one pump in the fueltank and one under the bonnet in the low pressure line.

Hi that presure values are kPA to convert to bar divide by 100, so u have about 2-3bar low pressure and 280 bar high presure at idle. But low pressure pumps should run around 3-4 bar. MIne is doing 3.9bar at idle although the manual says injection pump work from 1.5 -2bar supply.MIne is pre-2004 model (2001 w/h 2 LP pumps one in the tank, and one in the engine compartment, close to filter and LP sensor)
