I know this was 4 years ago but someone mentioned showing the mechanical work inbetween. That would have been super helpful as I just got an LR4 and do want to pay ridiculous prices for something so simple.

NIce job, I think. Your video shows before and after but nothing in between. It would be helpful to actually show some of the mechanical work actually happening.

Hey man, thanks a lot for posting. I was about to give up and take it to a shop. I mean I'm not totally un-handy but I could not figure out for the life of me how to get to the plugs (well, I did with a tech manual but all pictures). The video really helps. I mean it is possible to sit there for hours and figure out which part attaches to what and what you have to remove, but instructions are always the best and videos are better. Plus, I have other stuff to do, so it's always better knowing what to do, getting in there, and doing it. I appreciate it. I have a 2012 RRS SC and all the videos thus far on youtube have been for the wrong engine. I'm hoping I can use this as a basic guide. And thanks for letting me know how long it takes--so I won't give up two hours into it lol. CHeers!

Thanks for the vid! My LR4 had a lot of sputtering and a mechanic said it's probably spark plugs. I did a quick kit diagnostic and spark plugs also came up. I then brought it to LR specialist in town and they said catalytic converter - which is pretty pricey. Any use in just changing spark plugs to see what will happen? Would appreciate any feedback.

Kolby Harman I’ve done the transmission filter on the lr4 I currently have but I am looking to add another Land Rover to the stable this summer. So hopefully I can produce more Land Rover diy content with that one as well.

@@kcheese16 I dont know what model LR you own. The 2012 LR4 5.0 NA and the 2012 RRS are the only years they recommended a fuel filter change at 150K. The filter is located on the tank and requires dropping the fuel tank as there is no access from within the car.
@kennethellis5774
@kennethellis5774 5 жыл бұрын
I looked at the service manual and it does recommend to change the fuel filter at 150k miles. This may be something I tackle in the future.... not quite at 150k miles yet.

FYI The NGK Iridiums are lose in the 9/16 socket. Better off using 14mm magnetic spark plug socket.

Did you use anti seize paste on the new plugs? What torque?
@kennethellis5774
@kennethellis5774 5 жыл бұрын
No I did not use anti seize. Anti seize can alter torque values, giving you an incorrect amount of torque applied. As for the plugs I did 15 ft lbs. Some are hard to get a torque wrench in, for those just get them snug with your ratchet. I would start your spark plugs by hand, using just the spark plug socket and an extension to minimize the risk of cross threading. Once your confident the plug is threaded in you can stick your ratchet on the end and thread it all the way in. Hopefully that helps!

Awesome. You seem to be quite versed in the LR4. I have a 2012 LR4 that is stalling on me. Original codes were P2279 and P0087. We have replaced with NEW parts the 3 fuel pumps and filter, MAF sensors, crank sensor, air filters, oil change and OEM gas cap. Throttle body was removed and cleaned. Injector cleaning service as well. Codes were cleared. Still stalls at a slow roll. It idles great. Does not run rough either. Does not smoke. It just dies. Starts right up too. Any thoughts?
@kennethellis5774
@kennethellis5774 5 жыл бұрын
HalfMoon p0087 is either the fuel rail pressure sensor or the high pressure fuel pumps. And p2279 seems like either a throttle body gasket or the manifold plenum gaskets. Any other work recently like crossover pipe or water pump?
@halfmoon5022
@halfmoon5022 5 жыл бұрын
The first thing we replaced after codes were the pair of high pressure pumps. Yes, they were checked to be "in time" as well. After problem was not resolved, we replaced tank pump and filter along with crank sensor. Crank code never appeared, though it was highly suggested we swap it out. Problem not resolved so on to a new battery and MAF sensors and so on. Same codes popped up along with a P0420 pending code. When it shuts off, all electrical stays on. The navigation screen displays "SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF". We restart it and drive on.

@@kennethellis5774 LR012280 is the rail sensor and LR015356 is another sensor that goes on the line coming out of the fuel tank up to the engine. Which one of these is the one you are suggesting we swap?

Anyone on this thread have issue or know the issue of the ticking sound these 5.0 motors make? Is it something worth looking into? I’ve seen multiple posts say it’s just normal for this motor
@kennethellis5774
@kennethellis5774 3 жыл бұрын
Some ticking is normal. The high pressure fuel pumps are pretty loud, along with the direct injection. I think when most people are referring to ticking noises they are referring to the timing chain noise. There are a few videos on KZbin showing the noise.

Hi why you choose the V8 instead V6 petrol engine.
@kennethellis5774
@kennethellis5774 4 жыл бұрын
When I bought the lr4 the v8 was much cheaper than the v6. Also the v8 has about 35hp and 35ft-lbs of torque more than the v6.

How about the maintenance
@kennethellis5774
@kennethellis5774 4 жыл бұрын
Maintenance is the same. The v6 engines are supposed to be less prone to timing chain failures. That being said I have not had any issues with the timing chain on the v8 lr4. I believe that timing chain failures in the v8/v6s are due to the long oil change intervals recommended by Land Rover.
