Thanks for clarifying this nightmare of a problem, I feel for anyone who has been in an emergency situation of a blowout with this set-up, to then have to deal with this at an already most inconvenient time. What should have been an effortless task for most others manufacturers

Thank you Jim! Greatly appreciate this thorough explanation as to why my RR HSE Nuts feels loose- but it isn't. I will go to Rover Parts and order all new nuts and right socket to keep in my glove compartment...

A million thanks for this video.. the worst thing rover did is putting those things.. is big pain in the rear when you get flat tyres..

Thanks for sharing. I've a D4 which has this identical problem. I do not have a vice, so I have two sockets with lugs stuck in them... When I take my D4 for servicing - which is a LR specialist - they air gun them back on I guess as the caps become enlarged and are difficult to remove. It's strange that the rubber on my tyres lasts longer than the lug nuts.. (Yes I know you must do them by hand) but tell that to every garage out there.... real world isn't what you "should do"

I had the same problem and I was using a 1 1/6 socket but the shop I when to, they installed my new wheels using a 1" impact at 120 lbs. now I been using a 1 1/8" socket and it works.

Throw a 1 1/16 impact socket in your center console and supply it to the tire guys when you go somewhere. don't forget anti-sieze on the shoulder of the nut.

Thanks - those caps on the factory fit nuts had me a bit confused as the cap that looks so similar (dimple centre) on the locking nut has to be removed of course! I think I have 27mm on the rear spare, 22mm on the locking nut socket and 23mm on the wheels!! Thanks for the video - I have a Disco as well but you might enjoy a bit of UK scenery from my very rare Series 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqqYhJWoar6CfZI Best wishes, Anthony.

The best thing to do is just go out and buy a new set of lugs when you get them off. make sure you buy solid lug nuts.

With the size and weight of these I'd wager the replacements are very expensive. Biggest lugs I've ever seen on a passenger vehicle.

I like my rover and those replacement look good [and expensive] but Rover was so wrong with putting that junk on in the first place.

It is a major problem I have owned a couple of Land rovers I live in the UK and found them to be a complete pile of shxt They come with more built-in faults than anything else on the road, The Freelander 2 is probably a half decent car though and well perhaps the Ford eco boost problem beats it [ Car and commercial vehicle mechanic Arctic [semi driver] Bus and coach driver mechanic 50 years' experience.
