Land Rover Stuck. Struggling on Sand

@hardincountytigers - Best advice on here. According to Off Road driving instructors, the biggest mistake people make is not reducing tyre pressures. The second mistake is not having a compressor or even a decent pump. Always a good idea to have compressor, pump and a tyre gauge in the boot. You never know when you'll need them.

The trick with sand is keeping a steady momentum going without going too slow. The sand here in Florida isn't too bad when it's wet, it's almost like driving on the street. This type of sand looks to be a very fine sand, almost powder like.

Nice video! I like to find the limeds from my Land Rover to. I found out letting the tyre presure down (even when already stuck) makes a huge differends. Keep up the fun!

Land Rovers are fantastic, they may not be famed for reliability but they are famous for their off road capabilities. But there is only so much you can do with summer tires, which is what they look like, forgive me If I am wrong.

@ascolti the Sand option was engaged, the car's height was raised to its maximum. Even with the lock diff it wouldn't do much because there wasn't much traction on the wheels.

@groblert well actually he did nothing wrong, more or less he did it right. he knew enough to move the front wheels left and right to make sure he kept getting traction. he handled the situation well. if he was a total nube he would most likely have just jammed the gas hoping that would work. all he needed to do was air down the tires and the street tires don't help. i give him a 5 out of 10 for good effort

The LandRover is doing exactly what it's meant to be doing, all four tyres rolling nicely, the problem is traction and that's the use of road tyres and someone driving it who doesn't know better lol

yer type of tyre does not matter as bigger tread means bigger bite means digging down. Just lower the pressure to about 15 psi and keep going at a steady speed. most all soft roaders can handle sand with this trick

this is why you air down your tires in sand. the "sand" option of the car only can do so much.... the tires does the rest. but that's not something taught nowadays

Lots of well intended advice, I'm sure; but not all true. I've run sand dunes for days in my LR3 with zero problems. By the looks of it, the LR3 on the video still has street tires which are completely useless in soft sand, furthermore it looks like they are still inflated to street PSI which only makes them dig. Even good AT tires dig if left fully inflated. Had you used AT tires and deflated to around 15psi, that bit of sand would have been child's play.

Disable DSC before go to the sand and lower the tyre pressure to 15 psi and it will never happen again.

The problem here is the tyres pressure, just let some air out an that LR will cruise along that beach!!!!

one of the worst things to do its to make the tires around...keep them straight and just lower the tire pressure to get out....if need be, then get some other truck to help pull you out

I'm guessing he got stuck like this because he didn't keep up the momentum when driving along there. And if he was stopping for a break, didn't do it in the appropriate place.

@KinoFilm21 and let me guess, you left the tire pressures at their maximum? people dont realise how much of a different low tire pressures make... 10 psi is what you should be using on sand...

@KinoFilm21 next time try to lower the pressure to around 11~13 psi. This together with diff lock should do the trick. Better luck next time.

If I was sure the sand with water on it was hard enough to drive up onto, I'd have tried pointing it towards that, then, I dunno, accelerate at the soft stuff and try to rush over it. In reality, I'd shit myself about getting it stuck and the tide coming in, though...
