Very informative, thank you. I personally have never liked Key less go, I managed to spec my last Golf GTI performance pack 2019 without it. I could be wrong, but I think most people would prefer not to have these theft issues if the only down side was an extra 3 seconds to push the door unlock button.

VW keyless entry can be disabled by locking the car with the key button then straight away putting your finger end on the indent on the door handle. This pauses the lock cycle for a second then carries on locking. Then the car can only be opened by pressing the key only.

Keyless Go is the height of laziness. I said years ago in 2002 when looking at a MERCEDES SL55 AMG the manufacturers should put an ON OFF switch on the key fobs. It would have ended the keyless go thefts overnight. Why don't manufacturers put a finger print sensor on cars or face recognition?? That's pretty secure. Tesla have similar tech and don't suffer thefts like JLR do

I refuse to buy cars with keyless entry, I won't even use NFC on my phone for purchases. I've worked in tech since the 90's, currently a tempest red/black specialist for the MoD, and most modern systems can be bypassed or compromised in the blink of an eye. It never ceases to amaze me how many people put convenience over security, and they only learn the lesson the hard way. It certainly limits the vehicles and products that I'll lay money down for, but then I've never had a car stolen nor have I ever had my bank accounts compromised. Less is more in the tech industry, which is the reason why simple air gaps are the only way to secure sensitive networks; if it isn't connected, it can't be hacked.

I contacted 14 insurance companies and only 3 would insure it but the premiums were thousands . I must admit I saw the crash in values on Range Rovers coming so I jumped quick ! I would love to buy another but won’t while thefts are high and they are easy to steal thus uninsurable. I have had 17 Range Rovers since my first in 1988. Being in the autumn of my life I can’t see me owning another . Very sad , come on JLR step in and resolve your car security issues . Customers will still buy If you scrap keyless go ! The principal fact to bear in mind is that car thieves are actually skillless. If you present them with "not what they are expecting," they can not function (because they only know what they've been taught). Fit systems/ features, however simple , change the electrical landscape. Car stays put, and you don't need to spend £500. Back during the car wars years, (so-called) there was some suggestion immobiliser and alarm installers were involved in car crime, I can't comment how true that was, but the fewer people who know your security, the more effective it is.

Problem is once ghost ubiquitous and the supply of nicked cars drops off, the thieves will spend time and resources on getting round it! Many of these vehicles are taken by organised gangs that, given the money involved, really do have substantial resources, they have access to technical people that will work for the highest bidder... The Ghost system will eventually be cracked, and then it'll be open season again. It's really down to the manufacturers to take security properly seriously... Nothing else is going to do it long term...

There is only one way to describe this situation and it is simple! It’s unbelievable complacency for a prestigious name brand. I think if there are not careful they could possibly end up close shop. Plus he knows everything about these cars and how you should lock them. What should JLR do? I would get some of the guys and gals from Munro Associates to come over to the UK and show them how Tesla cover the cars in cameras and the computer management system which records everything and how JRL could join the future rather than remain in the past. I am told hardly any Tesla's are stolen - must be they have better security. This has been a problem for years for JLR and they are moving at a glacial pace to fix it.

I know someone senior at JLR who gets a new company vehicle every year or so. The last one he had broke down twice in the first few months and stranded him, the second time it cut out dead in the fast lane of the motorway, didn't even go into limp mode, just stopped. Luckily he managed to coast over to the hard shoulder. I recently drove past the back entrance to the factory and saw a Discovery towing a trailer with another Discovery on it. I thought 'what a good idea, tow a spare one so you can swap to that one when the one you're driving breaks down, which it probably will'. 😆. They're beautiful cars, but until they can actually make them reliable so people are less tempted to steal them to break for spares I'll stick to my Audis.

Yes. Problem is the our authorities and videos like this give poor advice to the public. They tell everyone to hide their keys or use Faraday pouches which is obviously not not good advice considering in most cases they're taken without the key signal.

I live in Oxfordshire, I’ve just insured my 2011 L322 for £630, admittedly the first broker I spoke to in my town wouldn’t insure a RR. I suppose one good thing is that when the stolen ones break down they won’t be able to fix them as they won’t be able to get the parts.

Plus any messing with the car will null an void the warranty, I did get tracker for one year but that won't stop the nicker's. My car was valued at £43000 ,if any one thinks I would let it go for that price is living in cloud coco land.£23000 is some drop on a new car . hopefully land rover will give us the correct price if they want to stay in business.

Car security peaked in the mid 2000s with all cars needing a key to start and having an alarm and immobiliser right now car security is regressing back to early 90s or even pre 90s level of ease to steal. In the late 2000s and early 2010s the only way to steal a car was to steal the keys through burgulary or mugging someone in the street.

I have a ghost immobiliser on my BMW. If you get dragged out of the car at a traffic stop (car jacked) with the engine running, the system allows the thief to drive no more than a few hundred yards before the engine cuts out. This allows a safe distance between you and the thief. Also if the car is parked outside your house and a thief tries to steal it the system will allow the car to start but the engine will cut out when a gear is selected (automatic gearbox.) You can change which four buttons in your car deactivate the ghost whenever you want for extra security and even disengage the system altogether when taking your car to the garage to have work done as this can be very annoying for the mechanic. Hope this helps. 🤘

Interesting some are saying that the keys were in a pouch. As I was going to say they should recall and replace the keyfobs, other manufacturers have motion sensors in the fob, the fob stops transmitting when stationary. However, there must be more to it, JLR wouldn't tank their business over a keyfob recall. Maybe use the ULEZ cameras for some good and track how they get the cars to the ports, as thefts of this volume, the cars won't be being chopped on UK shores. They are likely being shipped out the country.

The biggest problem with JLR vehicles is that the management there are totally inept. The vehicles have a reputation for problematic electrics and steering rack failures, so what have they done about it?....nothing is the answer.... A lot of customers are waiting more than 6 months for replacement steering racks because there are so many failures, and now there's a massive problem with obtaining spare parts in general because they have opened a new P&A depot and it's in chaos because of part shortages and computer issues so I've read... I also read that there are 10,000 JLR customers waiting for their vehicles to be fixed under warranty because of the failure of management to get a grip with quality and parts shortages...and now this massive problem of theft because the anti theft devices on the vehicles isn't good enough.I have an SVR Jaguar and it's a Great vehicle but there's always a worry that it might get stolen and also if it goes wrong then I could be without it for a long time waiting to get it fixed.

I thought JLR had introduced 'motion sensitive' keys some time ago? if the keys are on the side or hung up so not moving, after a short while they go to sleep and it makes relay attacks impossible. The only downside is they then have to sledgehammer your door in and take the actual keys. JLR should take more responsibility, due to reliability issues there are parts shortages, this drives huge demand for stolen cars for parts!
@chessguru900
@chessguru900 7 ай бұрын
This theft issue has a simple solution: First of all, JLR are perfectly aware of how these cars are being stolen. JLR can ask electronic module manufacturers in Taiwan, Japan, USA, Germany etc to come up with a redesigned ignition module that cannot be easily copied and offer a brand new pair of keys to their customers and charge them something like £500 or so and fit them at their own site for them. When mass produced the modules will cost less than £50 and keys are not expensive either. Just give customers appointments for one hour and replace them. It creates jobs for JLR as well.

keyless go has been a security risk since it came out on most models that have it . whats happened here is jlr has a very attractive target for crimminals and their vulnerabilities have been disseminated around the crimminal world massively , it will happen to other manufacturers because most of these systems work in similar ways . i remember when keyless entry first came out and insurers were refuseing to pay out to people by claiming they must have left cars unsecured or forgot to remove keys as the keyless system was supposedly totally secure

@@Challengetheroad it's been... A bit strange tbh. The Tesla was a really interesting car with outstanding performance and no car I've owned has ever been better at overtaking. But..... It felt like the quality really just wasn't there for an expensive car. After I'd had it for about a month I discovered in the boot a screw which had obviously been inserted to stop a rattle.... That was kind of indicative. I wouldn't criticise it too much because it worked really well. Reasons for getting rid of it.... It basically moved up and down in value regularly, depending on what Musk or the government had to say, but overwhelmingly it was down. Insurance costs were ridiculous (yes I know RR not a great haven in that regard!) And also even with a 300-mile range and the Tesla network I always wondered what fun would await me when I arrived somewhere far away. I change cars regularly though but I'd never owned a RR before. @funland108 100% the cops told me the pouches don't really stop keyless theft. I've tried walking up to the car before and had the keys in the pouch. The door wouldn't unlock so I thought that should work. Took them 4 minutes to get into the car. Take my steering lock off. The one that goes through the steering wheel and drive off. At the time my neighbour had the other steering lock that covered the steering wheel on his 2 cars and I saw how much of a pain it was to get it out of the boot. So I went with the surelock lock that feeds through the steering wheel. I thought it would have been enough. My neighbour has had 5 plus attempts, never at home with the whole wheel lock. Mainly at the sypermarkets or retail parks. on his audi and Ford St. He had ghost on both and they got in but couldn't drive it away. I honestly would have been happy to buy another and this time i even had planned to get the ghost install on the day of the purchase. But the insurance quotes were a gut punch. It actualy felt worse than having the car stolen. 25 years driving. No claims or accidents and a NCB to boot. I felt more gutted after dealing with the insurance companies then the actual theft of the car. If you do get one or have one. Get a ghost. My biggest regret. 10 plus years of driving RRS and RR came to an end.

Great video, addressing many points. My point is - just how can it be so easy for the thieves to put the car - Range rover, Ford Cortina, whatever - in a green container and ship it from Tilbury to wherever? Something's v wrong somewhere isn't it ? Discuss

JLR couldnt care less. A company so embroiled in failure they've become an embarrassment. Woeful build quality, shocking reliability and stealer network of incompetent sharks. When i collected my 'last' one they gave me a free puppy, company for all the walking i'd be doing...
