I recommend safety glasses for the guy in the video too.

Didn’t know there was such an animal as a tube sander. You learn something everyday.

They are awesome, real nice to give a good brushed finish on stainless and aluminum tube.

Tube sander is going on next years Christmas list, that things awesome. My d2's frame may be from texas, but the axles still are extra crispy from Michigan salt, also Merry Christmas!

A tube sander would be a good addition to the arsenal for that. It’s nice that you have the frame sorted. Merry Christmas as well, hope it is good.

Joe, good seeing you at the Minnesota and Alabama events this year. This is minor, but wanted to point out that due to the difference in axle tube diameters, the center point of the shafts will be slightly further away from all you reference points when you switch to the wontons. Not sure it matters or you care even if it does, but... :) Loving your videos!
@LostCauseRanch8 күн бұрын
I'm glad there is people paying close attention to what is going on. I did originally intend to space the factory axles up to match the new tube diameter. But as you noticed, I forgot to. Good news is I can adjust that with the upper link placement to keep them at the original intended "level" with each other. I had a blast with you guys at both those events, you guys are a fun group. Looking forward to running into you again some more this year.

@ for future axles, all you need is a shim as thick as half the diameter difference that you can plonk on to of the V support when placing the smaller axle. But honestly I am sure whatever the difference is, its negligible

To be clear, these are not 1 ton axles as fitted to Series 2A or 3. These had ENV or Salisbury front and rear.

"both the pooches"? Looks like the missing link is spring perches? I was going to say panhard rod, but that center ball joint thingy looks to do the same thing.
@LostCauseRanch19 күн бұрын
Yuki (the white one) is the girlfriend’s dog. She’s happy to have Chet around too. Spring perches are it. I’m just going to adjust the height a bit via those. The center ball joint does the job of the panhard bar. It has a control arm/trailing arm that vees from both sides.

Land rover do 1 ton axles on the series 3 don't they? Suppose the American 1 ton are way better for part availability though?
@teamidris19 күн бұрын
And some S2? With 900 x 16 tyres. I think it’s a licensed Dana anyway? Above that is ENV for the forward control. I guess the direct U.K. equivalent is my Ford transit twin wheel axel, which is 3500kg gross.

Do you have a good steel supply house up there? I have never found anywhere worth a crap down here in Davenport. One place laughed me out the door "We're a union shop, you don't want to pay our prices" Wish we had a metal supermarket or something cool like that closeby.
@LostCauseRanch19 күн бұрын
We have a pretty decent one up here. They keep a good selection and are fine with walk ins. They also have some nice drops to pick through which works out nicely for smaller guys like us.

What an ingenious sanding tool that little monster is. And yes you sir should have your own since you will be needed it again and again and again 👌 Hey dude they make masks 😷 to keep you from breathing in all that rust. Now your lungs are all rusted out to 😂
@LostCauseRanch12 күн бұрын
It is a little beast of a tool for sure. Hey I wore a mask while sanding, I wasn't quite expecting loosening a bolt to become a rust bomb like that haha.

😂rust you’ve just coved it all over everything in your work shop All you new builds 🤷♂️ One half of shop for cutting rusty old stuff one part for clean builds It’s not like you’ve haven’t got the space bro Great work, and a happy Christmas 🤘
@LostCauseRanch19 күн бұрын
Haha. Barely any rust. Just a fact of life here in the Midwest. It’ll get a detail after this disaster is done. Merry Christmas as well!
