Wonderful to see these videos of Pacific Coastal's operations up in B.C. I used to fly the sister ship to this Goose, C-GDDJ, back in the '80s in California, between Long Beach Airport and Avalon Harbor for Catalina Flying Boats. Back then she was registered N1257A, and we flew UPS, freight and fresh food to the island, "Twenty-six miles across the sea... ", five days a week. We even flew movie film reels over for the theater at the Wrigley Pavilion, and studio equipment and props when they were doing movie shoots on the island. And our boss's wife was also the mayor of Avalon back then. Hard work, long hours, and the most fun job I ever had. I sure miss flying ol' 57 Alpha. 🙄💖 We used to sometimes anchor off Pebbly Beach after the last flight of the afternoon, half-retract one of the floats like Pacific Coastal's pilots do, and dive off the high wing. Wasn't all work! 😎

Got another couple seasons of flying DDJ left in me and then I'll be missing her as well. If you find yourself on the west coast of Canada in the near future, I'll take you for a ride.

Dang I'd be afraid of timber in the water. These boys have guts edit: also that dude is a stud when docking. I'm not even that good on my boat lol

what switch is he actuating at the top panel at the end there? i presume it's to electrically spin the blades to get some forward motion to inch in to dock while having the engines off?

Wow. I scaled and built a 1/9 R/C. Flew it once.

float collapsed?
@peterrasmussen28055 жыл бұрын
No, by partially retracting the float it makes the plane much more stable for docking, less bobbing in the water. Both wing floats retract right up to the wing tips when flying.
@K1W1fly5 жыл бұрын
@@peterrasmussen2805 It also allows them to get the LH wing over the top of the mooring pontoon.
@KuostA8 ай бұрын
how does retracting them make the plane bob less? @@peterrasmussen2805
