I had a Vox, AC 15, and I sold it because I thought a blues junior would be better. Then I ended up selling the blues, junior and getting another Vox AC 15. I just got it Monday. The AC 15 has much more low end. It has the same exact tubes as the blue junior, but it weighs 20 pounds more. The AC 15 max is out at 48 pounds, versus the blues junior at 28 pounds. I can tell you that I like the Vox better because it has much more low end. The blue Junior has wimpy end, it’s not low there’s no bite, whereas the fox has a heavy thump you crank it with the bass up full Definitely like the Vox better

So glad I stumbled upon this. I play at a p90 Revstar and just bought a AC15 now that I’m getting back into playing. In my experience, I think Vox is easier to get bad tones, but can ultimately get better tones once dialed. At least to my ear.

Had the Vox Pathfinder 15R for quite a while. Just bought the Blues Jr. (December 2014). I like them both. I have yet to have them in the same room side-by-side as my Vox was lended to a friend. Either way, I love them both.

The Vox was sweeter and smoother clean and gnarlier dirty. I've played both but not on the same day but I thought the Junior was bland and the Vox full of character. Especially with the Alnico Blue speaker. I loved it so much I now have one in my arsenal.

I have the original tweed BJ, after watching this, I’m glad I do. I’m not a fan of the control layout on the Vox. As for tones, I’ve switched out the speaker on my BJ, installed a Carr Kingpin, also put some Tungsol preamp tubes in there, JJ’s power tubes. It sounds very different now. Sounds amazing really. Both. That's what i did. That's my never-sell duo (along with my beloved HiWatt T20 and Laney VC30 210" Jensens , UK made) but for a fairly portable dual mono/wet-dry/stereo rig they can't be beat. They complement each other so well. The EQ profile of each amp - made for each other! If I'm feeling nuts I add a small 1x12 extension to the Vox, loaded with another Greenback. Happy playing! Hope you are satisfied with your choice.

Can't decide on either one? Check out the Monoprice/Harley Benton 15watt all-tube combo. Kind of the best of both worlds (three band EQ, presence knob, one channel, clean sounds close to Blues Jr, dirty sounds like a British amp). Not the best looking amp but worth checking out.

I have a Vox AC 15 and it has broken 3 times. My blues jr. has lasted me and no issues. I finally got the AC 50 Nu tube. No worries sound awesome. 👏 good show. Cheers

I own a AC30C2 and a late 90s Blues Junior. I bought the Junior to give my wife and myself a break from the AC30 when I want to noodle around a bit when not recording. I like the Junior, it sounds good enough. But the Vox circuit is far superior IMO. I do enjoy the small form factor of the Junior. I've only had it for a few weeks but next time I go to play with friends outside my house not lugging my 80 pound AC30 will be nice.

My favorite amp of all time is my Vox AC15 HW1X. A lot of people will avoid Vox amps because of their reputation for being shrill or glassy, which can be the case if you're just jamming on one solo, but put them in a live band mix and yo realize that tone is perfect for cutting through and being heard. Excellent mid range on them. Perfect small to medium size gig amp.

Hey if you've still not picked up a revstar I can't recommend it highly enough. I have the same one in the video -- swift blue with P90s. I love it oh so much. And P90s through a driven Vox? One of the best dirty tones out there, imo.

I play with a Fender Blues Junior but the speaker was replaced with a Celestion 8 ohm Vintage 30 speaker. Sounds really good, paired with my Boss ME50, ME80 and GT100.

I have a Blues Junior, which I will be keeping, but that Vox sounded better to me. And, since doing a deep dive into Brian May's sound, I have definitely joined team Vox. The AC15 will be my next amp purchase. The AC30 is awesome, but WAAAYYY more than I need. Right now, I have two Mini Super Beetles, and a BM-1, for that Deacy amp tone. Time to step up to that trad tube Vox level. Rock. On.

Ended up getting a BJ4 as cover while my AC15 was being repaired. They're very similar amps. I marginally prefer the Vox - I think there's a bit more low end - maybe the size of the cab? But if I'm going anywhere, I'll always take the BJ - it's way easier to cart around.

The key for me, I think, is having a Celestion Speaker. I have a Boogie Fillmore 25, and while it is out of the price range of these two, that Celestion Speaker is what "makes" it. It's really a souped up Fender, but I think that Fender design paired with a Celestion is killer. If you don't mind spending around $2000 for a tube amp, then I would recommend the Fillmore. It's got two channels that are set up the same, even has independent Reverb knobs for each channel.

I love Both. I feel the Blues Jr has a truer clean, that being said I love the AC-15 because I play a lot of edge of breakup. I feel both dirty sounds are good, I just struggle dialing in the highs on a Vox at gainy levels to not sound ice pickey. Good Shoot Out 👍🏼

I have an AC15 cc1 with the Wharfedale speaker and a Tweed Blues Jr with a Cannabis Rex speaker. Both amps are amazing but I will say the Fender takes pedals a lot better. It's weird, some days I like the sound of the Vox better and other days I prefer the Fender. I would get one of each off the used market where it's easy to get some great deals so you can switch it up.

I have a FBJiv. To me the Vox sounds warmer clean, and preferable dirty. I want an AC15 with blue AlNiCo, but it may be too loud for home. AC10 would probably be the sensible choice for me, but I hear it lacks bottom end . . .

They are such different sounds. Chase your tone. Love them both - though for some reason I like the AC-30 better than the 15 that has nothing to do with volume. I say buy both. Love both! Probably love my tweed blues Jr better but love both. Depends what sound you want. Kinda have both, though my Vox AC 30 is a clone by Vox.

If you do your research with amp repair guys the AC15 is far better build quality inside than the BJ. I found this out the hard way having two fried BJ's in a row.... They overheat and the caps go bad. One repair was $450 and the other I just returned under warranty. I'm shopping for the AC15 now.

I own both and overall in my opinion, I think the Vox is overall better. Only thing the Blues Jr takes the edge in is clean headroom, reverb and it takes all pedals great. A couple of pedals sound weird and compressed thru the VOX but honestly all I need is the broken up overdrive with a Rat pedal lol

Really great to see this head to head of VOX versus Fender. Can't chose one over the other, each has their own awesome tone. Primarily using Marshall and VOX tones these days, but this is a reminder that I need to use Fender tones more often. I'm thinking that maybe the Princeton could be a better Fender comparison to the AC15?

I'm a total Vox nerd and make all my videos on an AC30 with just a smartphone. I've also got the AC10 as well and dude that thing is ALSO a GREAT amp! Yesterday I made a youtube short of literally just a Les Paul plugged into my AC30 with it totally cranked and man the natural distortion of a Vox is just the most glorious sound in all of guitar nerddom to me! I personally like to make John Mayer video shorts without pedals because I think an AC30 is that versatile and I also think it's funny to play Mayer straight in since people spend fortunes on any pedal that he just happens to like. LOL! Vox forever to me BUT I totally understand that they are also not the cup of tea of every player. I just personally absolutely love them but you can't argue with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Clapton's tone!

Both epic. In the past I was more a Vox kinda guy but as of late I am more a Fender or Roland JC kinda person. At the moment fooling around with chorus and phaser, huge reverb (Strymon BlueSky) and space echo (Boss RE-20 & exp.pedal) on a Boss Dual Cube LX (lunchbox amp).

In this video, I like the Vox over the Fender. Mostly, I would use Vox amps for the clean tone, but the dirty sounds were better than I've seen before. Did you change the speaker on that Vox to an Alnico Blue?

Will the vox mimic the blues jrn better than the blues jrn mimic the vox.. think I like the vox seems to have more space between the notes not sure if it's compression I hear I find the vox to sound more open for me that I think is what I want . But then I have a stage right tube 15and like it.

The Vox has a "tube" low in thump in my ears. Best way I can describe it from my end. Gives it a bit of a bass punch on the accents.......a warm, smooth bassy low end.

Other than reverb am not keen on amps with effects like the Vox has the tremolo effect,,, err together with a TU 3 BOSS tuner I always have a Grafic BOSS EQ err thanks for this comparison podcast 😂 I have a proper bashed up mex strat n tele great to have the two guitar s for gig or open Mike nite but my only amp is this Peavy 30 wat solid backstage + I'd love a fender tube and but the Vox is really good 😂 thanks a lot 😂

Dude, you're in Canada man! You should have thrown a Traynor YGL1 in that mix, it smokes both these amps hands down! I kept the Traynor over my Princeton! Although I still own a Deluxe Reverb, the Traynor is an incredible little beast!

I have both, and both are fairly new. BJ= more middy, WAY better reverb, much higher clean headroom, OD sound is meh, but take pedals well. I use it for smaller country/roots gigs. Mates well with a Tele. AC-15= A bit more "open' tone, not the best reverb tank (I upgraded), lower clean headroom, edge of breakup is where it thrives, OD is to die for, takes pedals well. This is a R&R machine that will make any guitar sound killer.

AC has a surprisingly good dirt channel... it's got some heft to its' chugg! Also... I didn't think either had spring reverb tanks, so thats a plus - for both of them. But the tremolo is a big win for the Vox. As it stands...i have a Fender Deville AND a Marshall DSL40C...I need a "small" amp i can just easily carry to wherever...a BBQ at friends'...or even just a hang on a Saturday afternoon at a friend's' mancave, with the boys. The AC is the winner. That said....the Fender clean tone is so good, though - its a must have if you dont already have it.

I liked the blues Jr better for cleans (just slightly) and a lot better for the gain channel. Does anyone know of a boutique amp thats better quality that can do the BJ flavor cleans? Even other Fenders like deluxe reverb or twin doesnt the same kind of cleans as the blues jr.

Some nice riffs. A good comparison would be the Vox pathfinder 15 (if you can get your hands on one) against the AC15. I think that the Vox is much better

Preferred the Fender clean but preferred the Vox dirt.

It would be great if we could get your opinion (both positive and negative) on these as you are in the room with them..KZbin compression masks a lot of what the amps have to offer.. I think your viewers respect your opinions so it would be great to hear them

ya for sure! the Vox is way bigger sounding, but I think the Blues Jr has cleaner cleans. I like the Vox dirt over the JR, but that's a personal taste.

I am a vox fanboy. The Fender sound is just more Neutral. If I had to do it all over again, I would have still started with Vox but also bought a Blues Jr or similar sounding solid state. The AC tone is a commitment that the more neutral amps don't have to deal with. My other favorite amps are the JC120 and the Magnetone Twilighter. If you have the budget or the soul to deal, the AC30, jc120 & twilighter isthe trifecta of tones. :P
