I saw the Tempts live in 1968, I was 17 and it was a memorable experience! Then I heard Ollie and the Tempts sing at David's funeral and couldn't believe what a fantastic voice Ollie had been blessed with. Temptations forever!

I too saw the Temptations in 1968, date April 4. I was 17. After school my girls and I went uptown and stood in a very long line in the rain to get an autographed b&w picture of the Temptations. There they were, all but David! I asked where he was and remember Eddie looking at Otis in disgust. We went home, changed and went to the Civic Center to the concert. After 2 songs we 2 Temps came out and said our leader had been shot! The place erupted. I was never so happy to see my grandfather and his station wagon sitting out front! Never saw the concert. 😢❤

Eddie Kendricks laid the foundation for falsetto tenors from the Stylistics, the Dramatics, Enchantment, all the way to the Prince, Michael Jackson and Raphael Saddiq. He sang solos, duets, harmony(that's him singing harmony with Mary Wells on " Two Lovers.", Soul R&B, Pop, Pop Standards, Disco, won Grammys and had number one records as a Temptation and a solo artist. Eddie was an amazing artist, if we would look at his resume.

Yes there were other fives that could compare to the classic five. The original classic five were Otis Melvin Paul David and Eddie. Ruffin was replaced by Dennis Edwards. Certainly this second five could compare to the first. Then Paul was replaced by Richard Street again this could compare.This five which perform here. Ron Tyson Alli Ollie Woodson Richard Street Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams could cettainly compare to any Temptations five. In my opinion Woodson was the total package as a lead singer. The best they had.

Notice Ali Ollie's hairstyle and heavy-rimmed glasses were similar to David's "look." At some point he/they decided to drop the facade and allow him to just be who he was--a giant talent in a class by himself. Fans saw the difference. Newbies perhaps didn't make the distinction right away. Kudos to The Big "O" for keeping the sound and the group alive and continuing to give fans a treat at each and every personnel change.

There was David, Eddie, and what's his name that led "Papa Was A Rolling Stone". But Ollie was the best lead singer of the Temptations in my personal opinion 💯. The man had crazy range. If only his health hadn't failed him and forced him to retire from singing, I believe that he would have shown that. RIP to all of them, as well as Paul and Blue. Each of them brought a special charisma to the group that made them the GOAT 💯💯!!

Yep. Soul to Soul was released in '89 on their album "Special", so I would go with '89 too. Maybe '90 at the latest. Melvin was a trooper right until the end though, wasn't he? I got to meet him and The Temps for the time in '92 before their concert and man he was still giving it his all. He will always be missed

@@MFjaYWiLL Richard Street was great singer and performer but for me, his voice wasnt suited to My Girl..if Allie's voice was a more natural fit and used to sing the other Dadid Ruffin lead vocals, it didn't make sense them not to use him for My Girl as well...must have been internal politics. After all Richard was there before Allie so maybe they had no energy to deal with it ..I don't blame Otis and Blue if they decided to leave it...anything for peace and to keep it moving.

I was born and raised in and around Detroit. As a kid in the 60;s, I had an Aunt that took me to Atlantic City gor a vacation, and we went to a concert on the Steel Pier and saw the Temptations, and the 4 Tops. That was when they were all still alive and in their PRIME!!! How lucky was I???

Dennis Edwards is also a great piano player and of course his powerful lead vocals are undeniable "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", "A Song For you". The Temptations are known for refined and distinguished lead singers. Ali Ollie Woodson Ron Tyson and Richard Street are among the best here.

They did a good job of trying to maintain the vocal balance of the original 5....Damon Harris and Ron Tyson were fantastic Eddie Kendrick replacements...Even though Otis was never a frontman, his vocals obviously complemented the group...Every one of them who ever represented the Temps were superb and 'on point' vocalists..none were being carried by 1 or 2 strong singers..Even when they sing jointly, you can hear what each one brings.

Some Enchanted Evening is actually Ali Woodson in the beginning, and then Theo Peoples (the you will find your true love verse), and then Ali takes over again, and finishes the song. There is a performance on KZbin with 4 Temptations, and Ali leads the entire song, as well as a performance with Dennis and the Temptation Review where Dennis features Ali on "Enchanted". Theo does lead "Stay".
