Well I went back .. again! A return visit .. again .. to Steetley to shoot long and very long exposures exclusively using the Lee little and super stopper.
This is turning into something of a project but would this return trip give me something I could hang on the wall or would it be another one to chalk up to experience?

Which is the best image in this set and why? Are any of these better than your favourite image from the last episode?

Quick tip Dan. Buy a $5 eyepiece, clip it onto your cable release so its always there when doing long exposures. Caps and cloths over your camera can cause slight movement to the image from the wind which acts like a sail. Great work mate. Love the images and your enthusiasm to go out and shoot whenever possible. Greg

Hi Dan. My 15yo grandson and I (we three met briefly at Gary Gough's evening with Thomas Heaton) really enjoyed this video. We were both particularly impressed with how you produced wonderful images from what was (to us anyway) a fairly ordinary location. He was sufficiently inspired to immediately start researching suitable locations with piers so that we can utilise our ND filters etc. We're in Leeds and therefore at least 60 miles from suitable locations, so he'll have to wait until all chances of snow are gone. Cold is one thing; snow quite another!
@DanPearsonPhoto
@DanPearsonPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Clive great to hear from you again! Leeds is a little distance from the coast but worth the drive especially with a little planning. I would definitely advise making the most of the snow though even if it is local .. just of course exercise some caution if you are heading out in the car. It's my intention to head out today but not quite sure where yet .. sky clearing a little in the northeast now so maybe some reasonably light at sunset!

That was deep. Some words of wisdom. Some sharing of thoughts. It's all good inspiration Dan. Awesome job, enjoyed hearing what you had to say. My fave image was at 17:32. It told more of a story than the others (but the others were great too). We sometimes get wrapped up with technique and light to create interesting images, but for me, an image that evokes an emotion, tells a story, or makes a statement is the one that wins the day.

Great vlog again Dan, I recognise that enthousiasm when you`re at the right spot at the right time. Stunning shots again. There is a part meteorologist in all landscape photgraphers. Last friday I came back from a business trip in Germany and went of the highway in Luxemburg to deviate to France to take a quick shot of a nucelair power plant, it was so rewarding to see the images on the back of the camera. Only purpose was to explore the site, because I wanted to come over there, but it is a 4 hour drive. Now I really want to go back to get more time spent on that site..

Thanks Patrick. There is definitely a huge part that is a weather obsessed buffoon in all Landscapers lol .. we are a little obsessive over the weather lol .. but .. I do still love a bit of bad weather photography it has to be said. I spend hours checking and rechecking metcheck and sun positions lol. My other half somewhat despairs ;-)

A great example of the importance to work the location Dan. Lovely colours in there. I think the lone groyne image is a grower as my first reaction was that it just stopped me in my tracks to lead me on to the pier. The shot for me was your last BW as it flowed from foreground to background, quite calming as well. Excellent engaging stuff as always. 👍👍👍
@DanPearsonPhoto
@DanPearsonPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks James. I quite like the lone groyne as I think it anchors the shot and gives a little balance .. agree on the BW .. def my favourite shot from the shoot and getting close to a shot that I would have on the wall. I'm musing over a diptych of two similar shots one long exp and the other with big smashing waves coming through as the final display option but we shall see!

Like it Dan, great vlog and images.I love a good long exposure and keep trying them myself. I'm newly sub'd and catching up on your "back catalogue" at the moment. It's good to hear someone say they want an image for themselves, and not for others to like.
@DanPearsonPhoto
@DanPearsonPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark thanks for the sub and the support. There's some hit and miss in my back catalogue lol but I am back on it and more focused this year .. putting the image first rather than the time out again which is always my main focus. I think as a photographer shooting for yourself should be the main goal .. shame it took me a while to figure that one out lol!

@DanPearsonPhoto
@DanPearsonPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
Brian R thank you Brian for the kind words. I think at this moment in time I've been experimenting with how I would like to develop photographing this location over time and that will probably take me quite a few months to consider and decide upon. Having a project that hangs together visual there is always appealing but as I mentioned record shops are also important for me and being creative and trying different styles compositions and processing is part of my initial groundwork on these sort of projects.

You're back! ha, I don't blame you man. Beautiful location. I grew up near the ocean and miss it a lot. Loved the first two image. It's definitely worth firing away when it comes to seascape. The black and white image underneath the pear was spot on. Nothing like inspiring others to go out and take some pictures. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

I think my favourite image in this set is at 2:37; favourite from Part 1 was at 6:38 (in that one). They're totally different images but I probably prefer this one at 2:37 because of the rich colours and textures of the receding water on the sand yet how you've timed it to preserve structure in the sea including that lovely wave coming in. It's just wow. And the composition just seems to work so well. Amazing shot. Guessing it's timed around 0.5s to 0.8s?
@DanPearsonPhoto
@DanPearsonPhoto 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Derek yes that was one of the shots I liked too but I think the mono long exposure square crop wins out for me .. mainly because thats what I went there to shoot I think. I'd have to check the data but yes looking at that it will be around 1.5 seconds at a guess. The waves comes in quite slow as it's a shallow rise to the shore and as such need to drag the shutter a little more to get the movement on the receding water.
