I remember Portuguese Bend and the slides in the early 1960s. Even then gorgeous homes were going down those cliffs. Anyone living on those cliffs should do so at their own risk.

Glad to hear no one was hurt! This incident will make it harder for the home owner to sell the property in the future. Even w/ a significant price reduction, PV cliff side multi-million dollar homes have been known to be ‘Red Tagged’ due their potential proximity for future landslides.

If you look at the property on a map nothing was lost except for the cliffside. Of course it could colapse further. Only thing i could think is if they lost their 15 mil home, they would probobly still be just fine anyway. I grew up in the area and it was common to see millionaires go crazy when this would constantly happen to their backyards or houses along the cliffs. The constant slides are 100% inevitable by most peoples expectations as well as that its been a constant theme when i was in the area. Its clout over logic, most of them must realize it can happen easily

Most people have an artificial turf putting green but, even if it is real a properly installed green has so much drainage built into it that it would not bring down a cliff side. However, no matter how lovely the view is mother nature will always change it up by eroding your backyard if you live there.

Landslide in Palos Verdes Estates 2217pm 9.12.22 the truck looks ok.. there are advantages to being unpopular re: lack of folk milling about said unpopular beach prior to landslide... i'm thinking those home owners need to club together and construct some sea defences... which will basically entail mases of concrete poured down the sea front cliff face - refer to margate beach sea defences in UK. they look pretty cool..

That's why you buy insurance. Of course some insurance companies have special rules about certain situations and require special coverage as a tree falling on top of your house is far more predictable than your house being moved 500 feet down a mountain. Of course, photos and sentimentals unfortunately can't be replaced even if they can (or at least outside of photos stored.) Just sadly not something that has a actual monetary price that will fully replace it.

Typical thought process, everything lasts forever. Well it hasn't happened before, and-or why worry, gravity won't be anything to place as priority. Always a first, usually a continuous as well, due to placed as secondary safety, second to none within people. Seen approx 8-different humans hike very near edge, same 8 fell minimum 3/4 down cliff, only to be resqued. That only happens to others, prior others, just couldn't happen to us. Those cliffs don't discriminate, never have, have walked same shoreline since mid 1970's, you will be fatality, un-forseens there are element within surprise.
