Landstar DOES take 35%. But there are added benefits you receive for that versus leasing onto other companies who claim to pay more.

I'm thinking bout buying me a truck and leasing with landstar. Ive been running a heavy wrecker for 8 years. Never been otr but have alot of driving experience. Is it worth it? Can I make good money? And have freedom. Im just looking to be off call and have my own truck. Trucking is in my blood and I wanna stay around it for my son to give to him one day

New subscriber here. Thanks for the thorough overview. I pull reefer to grocery stores.....been contemplating going on my own for a long time. Just remember, use only what you need to cover your house bills and stuff.....the rest goes to the business....build a reserve. I see guys start making money in O/O and then they go on a spending spree? My main goal of going O/O is to double up on mortgage payments.....get that house paid off, then start building for retirement. I'm 56 already....I need to pull the trigger with a plan real soon! Been driving for 23 years....dedicated stuff...$1500/$1700 gross a week....not getting rich either!

My truck does 4 trips a month. Started with a 2012 cascadia 2008 trailer, now I have a 2020 freightliner and a 2019 gd tk s600 If you can gross out 15k a week that's awesome, fuel maybe 1.5 to 2k what sucks is the 35%

@@TruckerAK i couldn't not survive at 3.5k a week man, the cost of rebuild engine alone is 15k and up and other expenses. I don't understand why landstar is making you run elogs on a series 60 engine. That sucks, you should be able to run paper logs and have a little more freedom ;) I'm set up even with landstar, whatever is left from you guys in house they put those loads on dat or truck stop board. 2 weeks ago I got a load with landstar hazmat tanker requesting a refeer 🤣. My endorsements are due to expire at the end of the year, I'm not renewing them, to much of a hassle for me it's not worth. That hazmat tanker load payed me just an extra $500 for what a regular load would pay coming home. One more thing, HELLO BOSNIA, I'm from Romania, about same age group as you. I like your videos man. 9:35 Recently I watched a team interviewed from Landstar, they stack loads/book ahead BUT if one load cancels or having to cancel one, they do not cancel the other pre-planned ones as they said: "building relationships" with agents is key. Service is extremely important. It can lead to other lucrative situations. Create trust and on-time history. The great agents are looking for the same, great service

I guess I wonder about the real expenses that aren't talked about. I get health insurance, profit sharing, 8 sick days, 16 vacation days, accumulated flex time and company match on retirement and the ability to pay for other stuff like long and short term disability, life insurance and contribute to my 401k. That eats up a lot of that 3 grand your making. plus taking care of your vehicle. How many truckers are disciplined to use the monthly money to set some (a lot) to cover these things? Starting to see the benefits of being a company driver and being home every night and only working 45 hours a week.

I was with Landstar for five and a half years and loved it. If I were still driving, I would still be there. The first six months may be your toughest until you figure out the system. It's about networking with the right agents and knowing where to be at what time of year. The freedom of being able to take as much time off you want was one perk for me. I would book about one to two weeks ahead. I would not take a load unless I had a good idea about what would be available on the backhaul. Build your reputation by proving yourself to the various agents and you will be getting calls on the good freight. Start learning what agents are handling the freight in different regions you go into. Its also about attitude. Keep a good attitude and show you can perform and you will do well.

It all depends if you buy a truck private it’s a little more in depth you have to one start your business 1099 or LLC or which ever then sign up for your EIN number once you do that you have to go to the DMV where they do truck registration and pay for your tag and then pay the road tax fee and like once you do that you can sign on to a company but like with landstar they can get a you a tag and all that stuff and with a newer truck from the dealer they kinda help you with some things I’m not 100%

What is the difference between Inway and Ranger? Will I see different rates on the load board between them? Thx in advance... keep the content going. It’s Great!

I got the cash to buy my own truck. Totally paid for with no payment. I’d like to hook up with someone like Landstar to get loads and keep me busy. I’m not ready for being totally on my own. So do they give you available loads and you pick one? I don’t know how it works. I’d like to buy my own truck and start debt free but Im just not educated enough to totally go on my own authority. I’ve been a trucker before but always drove for someone else. I took a few years off and want to go back but in my own truck

Did you leave the transfer tape on the face of your dot numbers? That would look hazy and weird on a non white truck.
