My truck does 4 trips a month. Started with a 2012 cascadia 2008 trailer, now I have a 2020 freightliner and a 2019 gd tk s600 If you can gross out 15k a week that's awesome, fuel maybe 1.5 to 2k what sucks is the 35%

My endorsements are due to expire at the end of the year, I'm not renewing them, to much of a hassle for me it's not worth. I get health insurance, profit sharing, 8 sick days, 16 vacation days, accumulated flex time and company match on retirement and the ability to pay for other stuff like long and short term disability, life insurance and contribute to my 401k. That eats up a lot of that 3 grand your making. plus taking care of your vehicle. How many truckers are disciplined to use the monthly money to set some (a lot) to cover these things? I was with Landstar for five and a half years and loved it. If I were still driving, I would still be there. The first six months may be your toughest until you figure out the system. It's about networking with the right agents and knowing where to be at what time of year. The freedom of being able to take as much time off you want was one perk for me. I would book about one to two weeks ahead. I would not take a load unless I had a good idea about what would be available on the backhaul. Build your reputation by proving yourself to the various agents and you will be getting calls on the good freight. Start learning what agents are handling the freight in different regions you go into. Its also about attitude. Keep a good attitude and show you can perform and you will do well.
