I bought a pen press years ago, but this would have been a great project. It's all about making things that work. I am 75 years old, and I enjoy learning how to make things. Great job with the video, and I too held my breath watching while you cut the notches on the table saw.

Love the pen press. A pen press give away is a great idea, whoever thought that up is a genius. Looking forward to the contest.

Awesome Laney! Don't worry about length or multi part videos either. I don't turn or make pens but I still sat for nearly 40 minutes and watched both vids. Why? Because your entertaining and I can still learn something! Thanks and keep up the good work!

Excellent video! I built one using your plan after the 1st video and am now watching the 2nd to see if I did the rest right. I had to make mine out of 1" because that's what I had. I had to adjust a few measurements but it turned out great! You can get all the parts from a piece of wood 6 1/4 x 20 and 6 x 14. Oh I also added a little wood (wenge, yellowheart, and padauk) to the handle top and turned it. I left 1/4" at the top of the oak to make it look like a little push button.

Nice job, Laney! Good detail, clear explanations, great design! Always look forward to your videos! When you take your time it's so easy to follow. Appreciate it as always. I'll be making at least one of these but since I'm not making pens it'll be for something else. When I'm done I'll let you in on what it's for! LOL! Take Care and have a great week!

Hi Laney. I made one of these when I first started pen making but for the stop end I had a block with two dowel prongs in the bottom and that moved back and forth along a line of drilled holes so it could be set to whatever length was required. But I think yours is more sturdy if you get a stubborn pen part. I also turned the end of the handle before fitting just to make it a bit more comfy on the hand. A good waxing certainly helps with the movement. Many thanks for a great video. Alan

Laney, What do you want to bet if you were making those notch cuts today, you would be using that new bandsaw and not doing those scary cuts on the table saw? Good job of using what you had at the time though.

Great little project. Shop bought presses are about £50 now (2018) so I think I'm going to have to have a go at one of these. Looks like a fun thing to do.

Great idea Laney, but I think rather than do the bolt thing, I'll just clamp the slider to the bench where I need it to be. Thanks for the info.
