Yes; he won 1st prize. This helped give him many performance and recording opportunities. Of course, he only made it big 4 years later.

Lang Lang was 13 years old, actually. This competition took place in 1995 (Lang Lang was born in 1982). It is amazing, though, nonetheless. Lang Lang is extraordinary; even at age 13, he shows himself to be far above the caliber of an average pianist.
