On every day of the week, a night market (also known as Pasar Malam in Malay) sets up in different places of Langkawi. There is a different and designated location for the market each day. The Thursday Night Market is the closest location to Pantai Cenang area - Temoyong Night Market. It's is a lively affair with local vendors setting up makeshift stalls along a stretch of road, selling all kinds of local items making it a great place for trying out various types of local food at relatively cheap prices. Look out for various freshly prepared Malay food such as Pisang Goreng (fried bananas), keropok lekor (fish crackers), nasi lemak, fried noodles and nasi Ayam (chicken rice).
The market starts around 6pm, but we would suggest getting there a little earlier so that you have the full selection available as some things do sell out! Be sure to read our posts on Malaysian Cuisine and Malaysian Sweet Treats to know what else you should look out for and try!
Thanks for watching!

You are getting small town prices in Langkawi. 1RM for 3 pcs is practically a give away. Even in my town it sells at RM 2.00 for 5 pcs. Variety and quantity is simply amazing. Watched your Mauritius supermarket vist and display of price tags. How do you find prices in Malaysia compared to Mauritius and your home country?

Mauritius is not a budget destination and prices are more in line with European destinations to an extent. If you stick to local food or can cook for yourself it's not crazy expensive. Malaysia compares very well to our home country (South Africa) except that generally in Malaysia, accommodation is cheaper and it's also cheaper to get around. Some things in SA are cheaper again like higher-end restaurants, wine, beer etc.

André and Lisa thanks for your reply. Alcoholic beverages and Cigarettes are taxed heavily here in Malaysia. Locals refer to the tax as "Sin Tax". High end restaurants do seem expensive here.

As we spent 4 weeks in Langkawi we got a great long stay deal using Airbnb. Can't recommend any specific place but we found Airbnb options to be good value or of peak season. You can find more details on our stay here www.wewillnomad.com/post/langkawi-travel-expenses-28-nights
