Really wonderful video, Emily! I love how you guys are addressing the importance of mental health when it comes to learning languages. So easy to fall into these negative thought patterns, so it's important to be authentic and show that language learning isn't a straight curve. Lots of zigs and zags, and that's totally OK. thank you for sharing, and for you both being authentic.

I'm gonna be an academic weapon in May. Hi Faye, thanks for amazing video. I do my master's in Organic chemistry and in my uni almost all exams are essay type. In exam we get 5 random topics from whole semester. My problem is that I can link information, but I remember them as big chunk instead separate topics linked. So in exam I don't know what exact information needed for my topic, I write less information than I could and basically I get lower grade than I want.

lol shows my spectrum of language learning video content. I love the wholesomeness and the experience of heritage language learning that I resonate with your channel, but I also love the troll polyglot gigachad hilarity as well of language simp. It truly reflects the journey of language learning, the ups and downs, knowing your why, but still having fun along the way.

Thanks for your perspective! I thought it'd be super interesting to have someone who approaches languages seemingly polar opposite to my content, but comes from a very similar place to learn languages in a more sustainable and healthy way. Glad we did this collab for you to get a 2-in-1!

Wow, shame on me, I thought this guy really was just a troll and I never ever watched a single video of his hahaha But I reaaaaally loved the interview! I feel so identified with many things that he said, especially with the "feeling like learning this now so I will ditch the other thing". And finally someone is talking clearly about progress in a more of a gray-scale way then just black and white :)

What a great interview! I really enjoy both your channels, so it was great hearing the conversation between you. On my channel, I make both language videos and Disney history videos. I just put out a Disney history video that has a very minor mistake in it. I'm on the verge of monetizing, so I don't want to delete the video and lose the viewing hours, so I fessed up to the mistake in the description (which probably nobody reads), and now I'm just WAITING for that one comment that will call me out on the mistake. So Language Simp's story about making an error in a video and then reading a comment that called him out on it so resonated with me! It was good to hear that such a successful KZbinr has similar experiences. On a side note, I know you specialize in discussing the relationship between language learning and mental health. Have you done a video about imposter syndrome and language learning? I have definitely felt like an imposter at times with my Spanish. There are times I don't understand something in Spanish or stumble while forming a sentence in Spanish and then doubt my fluency in the language, even though I have gone as far as becoming a bilingual teacher in the language. While I certainly don't feel this way all the time, there are times when I interact with native speakers and feel like an imposter. If you have made a video on the topic, I'd love to watch it.

Yes! I definitely wanted to ask him about youtube creation in language learning, it made me feel better too hearing how he had to go through similar nitpicking of videos already published. Also, love your recommendation about imposter syndrome, I have actually done a workshop about it last year, but that is a great youtube topic to add to my list to make. Thanks for this helpful suggestion!

you both are amazing sources of inspiration thank you!! just a question, one i still am not sure of, and don't know how to derive the answer. when learning a language, i'm always afraid to ONLY focus on that one language because i fear, i will forget my progress and forget everything that i learnt in the other languages i have studied up to this point. should i try to balance my target language with the ones i've learnt up to now. OR is it always better to study one at a time, even an entire month on that language alone, and then try to go back to the other languages? Thank you so much again =)
@languagetraveladoptee
@languagetraveladoptee Ай бұрын
Hey sheelie! Neither nor is "better", sometimes I find I study one at a time because personally I'm finding more joy studying one at that pt in my life. Other times I do a "marathon" or sorts reviewing the other languages all at once passively. It involves a ton of self trust in your own decisions and trusting of your own intuition in the end, more than what I've seen other language experts talk about, just as important to develop besides any study plan or routine!
