LANGWITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - Langwith also has a memorial to a munitions factory explosion and a 1942 plane crash - As well as the cave featured, there's also a cave just up from the pond on Poulter Park in the woods - The village hall in Langwith used to be the village junior school, with the building directly behind it being the infants school - Langwith Bassett Cave is known to most locals as “Gildy Cave” or “Gildey Wells Cave” thanks to Gildwells Farm being located on the road to Bolsover from Upper Langwith - Langwith Bassett is mainly Upper Langwith. The area was once owned by the Bassett Family that owned the land and a Manor House called Bassett Castle. It’s sometimes called Bassett Hall on pre-1900 maps

I was born and brought up there in the 1950's and 60' and have fond memories of being able to walk miles through the local woodlands with my mates. i worked at the colliery for a while and remember some of the great characters with whom I worked, second to none!! I left to find out more about life, living in many other parts of England and ended up in Spain. Thanks for the videos of the area. It's great to see that the village is still up and running. You're welcome! Never my intention making these but people are using them for that, so that's a nice bonus!

Brilliant! Born and bred in Shirebrook and spent many a time around here. Locals all knew the cave as Gildy Cave. Gildwells Farm is on the road to Bolsover from Upper Langwith and 'Gildy Wells' is the Poulter than goes under the road. There was always access to the cave so I need to check this one out!

There was access to the cave but the farmer made it private.

It's funny, when I was researching this one, there was a website that basically showed me where to walk but you were only to do so if you didn't mind barbed wire fences and the obvious hazards that go with them. I'm not that brave haha. Well, that and if I trespassed the farmer might see it on here

I can remember playing football at Langwith back in the 70s . There was a young player called Paul Guy who was fantastic but I seem to remember he broke his leg. Shame as he would have been world class. Anyone know if he is still around?

I know him last I was told he joined RAF after the leg break

Helen Flunder, Brendan Perkins and their band The Keyhouse. All provided by them. They contacted me asking if they could provide some music for the vids. Lovely isn't it?
