Really enjoy your videos. I'm retired now(79) But I used to be a specialist wood floor restorer. I have done many of the floors in Welbeck Abbey. It's a very beautiful place. And I always felt so impressively fortunate to be able to do such beautiful places. I have done quite a few stately homes. Inc Haddon hall. Hopton hall. Another one in Lincs. Don't remember name. The present owners who are distant relatives of Duke of portland. Are a lovely couple. Been down few of the tunnels. They no longer live in the Abbey. But live in a very large property on the estate. Woodhouse something, maybe Manor It was a house the last duchess had built with a swimming pool. They spent many hundreds of thousand pounds modernising it. Believe his son now lives in the Abbey.

Yeah if you'd have driven down Broad Lane, opposite side of the road to Hodthorpe you'd have reached the South Lodge of the tunnel, and would have been a short walk from the impressive holloway at Busaco. The alternative route being the bridleway just north of the Abbey, can't really see much of the buildings but at least it's one, other, access route through the estate. Well done to Google Maps for at least allowing you to do a virtual tour through the estate, modern technology comes in useful sometimes.

I've made the mistake with the left hand fork in the road before. I parked in the garden centre and was going to walk down there then realised I couldn't ☹️ You can park down at South Lodge but there are other houses down there and they've had some damage caused by people passing through so they prefer people not going down there. I find the footpaths very confusing and I think one of them passes over a very narrow section of the lake but you can't walk round it☹️ Thanks for the google maps footage, I never realised it went down there, it's probably the first time I've actually seen what it looks like😀

It was a bit of a "oh no, what the heck do I do now moment" when I saw the sign and the subsequent ANPR cameras. It took a while for me to sort of work out how I could show you what I'd seen, but I think it's worked! The path you're talking about is the one I mention that runs up to the lodge. It would be awesome to get around the lake, but it such a private place, probably won't ever happen.

Wow. Very well done considering your limitations. The manipulation of the google maps was a stroke of genius! I wonder if you could have gotten permission (I know you didn't seek it in advance since you thought you would have no trouble) when you found it closed to the public. You have a wealth of videos to show that you are not just an ordinary tourist and that may have counted with the "owners".?

I doubt theyd have let me film much if I'm honest. Some of the comments coming out of the Facebook groups this one went in are saying they had some kind of theft issues. I imagine this is why the road's now private and they have red hot security/ANPR cameras. The thought did cross my mind too about asking but like you say, I thought I wasn't gonna need it. Google need to update their maps haha
