The OV membership “costs” $10, but that $10 goes to a store credit that you can put to your purchases, so it doesn’t bring the price to $315 - it’s still $305...

@@BackcountryPilgrim Yes - it’s actually $10/month, but it goes directly to store credit. Gets you reduced prices and free priority shipping, as well as nice little nest egg when you say, “gee, I need a new …” and you jump over to their site and boom - the money is already on your account… I’ve been a member since they rolled out the program and I love it. You can even use the credit towards the non-OV gear they sell on their site.

Great review...I'll keep using my old Lanshan 2 or even older MSR trekking pole tent until I convince myself to buy a Durston X-Mid Pro 2. Might be a while...

Dang that featherstone is heavy. I don’t understand why a company would sell a tent that is not seam sealed. To me it seems like a roofer leaving a ton of nails and scrap shingles all over the yard after they finish a job…or not finishing the job. Good info!
@BackcountryPilgrim
@BackcountryPilgrim Жыл бұрын
Featherstone is going for more of a balance of features and weight whereas the Lanshan seems mostly about weight (which is fine) but yeah the Lanshan's lack of seam sealing seems inexplicable to me.

Frankly, I really! enjoyed seam sealing my Pro1 not once but 3x and it was simple simon, was in a downpour for 24 hours at Mammoth in September and I was awesomely impressed, Nada, Nothing and no condensation. Forget Durston or those others that are ridiculously over priced like Luke said on his channel, they will not be around in 10 years.

@pismorichy Pretty sure cheap Chinese knockoffs aren't gonna be around either. In the meantime, I'd rather have something half the weight and twice the quality from an American (maybe even Canadian!) company. :)

My biggest complaint with these new Lanshan competitors is the use of silnylon. I’m so tired of tent makers using sil nylon that soaks up rain and condensation and sags to the point that it essentially needs to be repitched. Sil poly is about the same price, weight, and durability while absorbing less water and not sagging. It doesn’t make any sense to use silnylon at all anymore.
@BackcountryPilgrim
@BackcountryPilgrim Жыл бұрын
I'm a poly fan as well. OV says they "chose Nylon due to it's extra strength over polyester. To reach our target weight and performance goals we chose this vs a 20D or heavier polyester with similar strength." I trust these brands both did their homework and even my favorite SilPoly by Tarptent and Durston's Dyneema Xmid Pro use Nylon for the floors which tells me price, weight, or durability is still something of a contest between these materials.

It's important to note that the Outdoor Vitals membership is $10/mo which 100% can then be applied toward any purchase.

Nice review of the tents, but for 300 dollars I think I would buy a Durston X-Mid 2p and it would be a better choice, what's your thoughts 💭

KZbin deleted my comment; possibly because I named an interesting source. Sigh. Trying again: Nice discussion, as usual. :) The Lanshan manufacturer offers seam sealing for $35. It is on their Accessories page. Go figure. :) The other KZbinr (that I do not seem to be able to name) had much better luck than you did with the Lanshan in heavy weather. However, he is experienced with 30+ MPH winds on the coast of Northern Ireland. He did add extra guylines. This is a guy with many tents, including multiple Hillebergs. He liked the Lanshan for space and weight. The Fortius competes more with Durston than with the Lanshan. Personally I find tapered things non-starters, but some people like them. I'd like to see usage reports on River Country tents. They are lightweight, inexpensive, and some have 5x7 foot floors, which approaches actual comfort for two people.

I have a link filter for spam but I usually let them through if they're legit, just takes a while sometimes. I'll release it if YT let's me haha. The Lanshan isn't bad at all, I just want people to know there are options. I've never used the River Country. You?

@@BackcountryPilgrim Not yet, but I might. :) They are tempting because of the generous floor space. Few 3 pound tents are that spacious. There's nothing like it at their price point. The only downside I can see is that they are A-frames rather than pyramids, so might not be quite as tolerant of heavy wind. I've spent plenty of nights in A-frames with no problem, but weather happens. It is possible that rigging a poncho or tiny tarp as a point on the windward side might be sufficient.

I have the Fortius 1 P and it seems to attract dirt extremely easily. And the bathtub sides easily fall down when the door is fully opened. How did you prevent the bathtub floor on your tent not to easily fall?
@BackcountryPilgrim
@BackcountryPilgrim 2 ай бұрын
I didn't notice the floor walls collapsing with the door open (e.g., 6:25). I pitch trekking pole tents pretty tight, and getting the correct geometry is important - in theory, the door shouldn't matter. Also, the Fortius can be pitched with the fly very low to the ground, which might help mitigate dirt blow-in. I hope that helps!

How come the outdoors vitals is stronger with a 15D walls?
@BackcountryPilgrim
@BackcountryPilgrim Жыл бұрын
The reason I said it was more storm worthy is because the Fortius is seam sealed and comes with better guy line and storm line tie outs. 15d is plenty for the walls of a 3-season tent, the issue is waterproofing and structure.

I am trying to decide between the Lanshan 2 (not pro) and the Featherstone Backbone. How well does the Backbone handle condensation? I live in Texas, I’m concerned about waking up wet each morning.
@BackcountryPilgrim
@BackcountryPilgrim Жыл бұрын
The Featherstone's ventilation is decent but there are so many conditions that affect condensation, I'd hate to make any promises. If condensation is a concern, pretty much no single wall will beat a double wall!

The biggest problem of this channel is that you only make videos for american people… so how much does the tents weigh. İ cant bother to do the exchange. İts not so hard to include kg, grams and cm to the specs… is it… you dont want the europian people to subrscibe… i will not

@babar69110 How is that disrespectful? This is an American channel lol. We use pounds and oz. The OP obviously is the type that feels like they're owed something. If the claim that it's so easy for him to do the math, then the OP shouldn't have an issue doing the math either correct? Op could of just asked the weight instead of attacking him. That's the rude part in my opinion.
@patrickdolan.
@patrickdolan. 23 сағат бұрын
@babar69110 you do realize that most of Europe would be in shambles if the USA didn't spend what we do on our military budget and billions sent to other countries in aide? China or Russia would be taking over every other country guaranteed. But realistically I don't know what politics have to do with a KZbin channel not providing metric calculations. I'm sorry you're having a bad day or whatever it is inside you that makes you hate America. I hope you find your peace. I'm not going to sit and argue on a KZbin comment thread over politics 🙄. I respect your opinion but to to each their own. We aren't going to agree on things so it's best we just not waste the energy with drama. Take care
