I have ideas for themed daily videos like Metal Monday, Wood Wednesday, topics such as that to cover the different mediums I like to work in. I would have to be full time youtuber to do that much tho. Ive been getting so much OT at work lately its hard to keep up with the videos too. So we'll stick with Tool Tuesdays and itl get me out in the garage for a while to decompress too. Thanks for stopping by :)

Thank you, sir. I have always loved these styles of lanterns but they've always leaked on me. I have tried LED versions but it is just not the same. You've inspired me to pick them up again.

Thats awesome, Im glad you enjoyed it and are inspired. Its rewarding to find one that would be otherwise scrap and bring it back to service.

like the idea using the sharp screws with the nuts I can imagine how it was to blow air into the tank :) got to have a feel for it to work. See you on the next one, Thanks

It was like being hit with a small water balloon of rusty water, lol. I did a small lawn tractor gas tank once that had really bad rust scale in it. Once I got all the scale out I sealed it. It was pretty bad I dont know how it didnt blow through. Must been good ol thick steel. It was off the '69' Snapper I had.

The videos take a long time to make and edit! It can get tedious real fast... This tank sealer seems like a epoxy based sealer and I like that. I never liked the seams that run along the tank bottoms as they can sometimes leak. The only seamless lantern I have is a Dietz Tropic, the bottom of the tank is like your cooking pots. They have one seam on top were the cap is. Great design and I am surprised they didn't make more of that style. One thing I can attest to is when making videos is fun you will enjoy the process so much more. That is why sometimes you have to be flexible and just do what you feel like doing. Great stuff!

Ive never seen that model Dietz before. I'll have to look it up. Seamless bottom is a good idea. There is another company that makes a sealer POR-15. I cant remember why I chose Caswel. I did a bunch research before buying. I like how the Caswel is clear and dries hard. It is like a tank inside of your old tank if you get it thick enough. The Dietz Vesta I sealed had some pretty big rust holes, I taped over them and the sealer took care of the rest. Thanks for watching :)

My dad would use BBs in gas tanks they're small so they get the corners good
@GuntersGarage

BB's are a good idea. Anything to rattle around and knock lose material off to be flushed out.

I did the same project yesterday except that I used SEAL ALL…used about 3/4 of the tube..I also had cleaned the outside bottom with WD40 and coated the bottom with the remaining SEAL ALL…still tacky as of today…will give it a few more days…probably overkill but…When I first bought this old lantern I filled it up with vinegar and let it sit for a few days and NO LEAKS..It only started weeping after a few days with the lamp oil in it…Hope SEAL ALL WORKS.

Overkill is ok. Better than having lamp oil or kerosene leaking making a mess. I tend to overkill myself most times as I hate going back twice on a project.

Hi. I really appreciate this video. I bought a lantern recently and discovered it had several small holes in the side of the tank, and maybe a few on the bottom. I’m guessing the largest is maybe 1/16” in diameter. I know this lantern only had one small pin hole, but it sounds like you’ve repaired worse? I’m wondering would the caswell sealer, or something similar would work in my case? Thanks.

I have sealed larger holes with Caswels. Clean the surface well outside and just put some tape ofer the hole so the sealer dont leak out. I have sealed holes up to 1/4" with this stuff.

Just learned about your channel from Scoutcrafter and just subscribed. This video caught my eye and will provide me with info to tackle a lantern I have. I assume this will work on metal gas cans? Looking forward to catching up on your other videos. Thanks
@GuntersGarage
@GuntersGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes this will work on gas cans, tanks or what ever. Just have to get your volume right for the area your coating. POR-15 makes a kit too. Just have to look and see what you like. I cant remember why I went with Caswel over POR-15.

how do I clean the residual oil out of the tank before starting this sealing process ? Thanks!
@GuntersGarage
@GuntersGarage 6 ай бұрын
I used acetone and rinsed it out several times. Acetone evaporates very quickly too so lingering of any puddles is not much of an issue prior to moving on to the next step.
