1min57 is not enough to say the TDF is finished. What Pogacar did today was more tactical than other days, as today he stayed in VGG wheel (and not the other way around), which was a first since the beginning of this TDF. They said this morning they wanted Adam Yates to win the stage. Even if Pogacar was cheeky/joking/smiling during this interview, it might have been true at some point. Then I think he saw a small opportunity, hoping for the best after jumping in Adam's wheel. Tomorrow might be the first stage where we see if VGG is able to win this TDF (and if Pogacar will lose it).

After the race Adam Yates explained what happened. He was talking to Poggi. Adam told Poggi that he felt good and could attack. Poggi told him (not the UAE team) if he felt good he should try to attack. Poggi waited to see the reaction of the other cyclists to Adam Yates' escape attempt. No one tried to close the gap to Adam and that was the signal for Poggi to try to attack 4.6 km before the finish line. The key moment happened a few hundred meters before the mark (2km to the finish) when Poggi recovered to ride with Yates. Immediately after the 2 km mark, Poggi repeated his attack and increased his lead from 9 seconds to 39 seconds. The role of Adam Yates was to try to attack and after that he helped a few hundred meters for Poggi to recover. That was the driver's tactic, not the UAE team's. The UAE team had a similar scenario but the drivers decided when and how to attack.

@markdonovan1540 pog blew up last year because he races a full season.. Not just 1 race with a stacked team. And pog didnt prep last year due to his crash. Lets be hinest, 100% fit jonas wouldnt be in a diffrrent situation to now.. Pogs on another level this year
@danielnielsen40255 ай бұрын
Tbh this year is clearly not jonas vingegaards year after the big big crash with jonas, but i must say that its impressive that jonas is in second place, and he had so hard with training. But next year if jonas dont crash, and hes teamates isnt sick or dont crash then if u ask me then jonas will win tour de france 2025❤💪 And pogacar is very very strong this year and im proud of him too💪🔥 Hope u come stronger next year jonas Love from denmark❤❤

Jonas needs to make the race a full gas 1 vs 1 for as long as possible, he needs attack first and ride full gas from the bottom of the last climb tomorrow, that's the only way he can win. He can't if he waits until Pog creates a gap with his attack with just a few km to go, like he did today. Wednesday showed, Pog can create a gap for a few km, but can't keep up the pace for long. VIngegaard needs to ride full gas from the bottom, so Pog is tired at the top, like he was on Wednesday.

Good comment. Vingegaard benefits from steep long climbs at high pace. No Kuss to set up that pace so he needs to do it himself and have faith that Pogacar will have problems to follow sooner or later. Today I think was bad tactic from Vingegaard, at "flat" 4-6% a few km from goal he's never beaten Pogacar.

Pogi might have decided the Tour today. Tomorrow is the day we'll see it. If there is a day for Vingegaard and Visma to react it is tomorrow.
@AtomikGround5 ай бұрын
Before the Tour started I though Vingegaard could claw back 4-5 minutes from reaching the Pyrenees until Nice. But now he actually lost time on the first of those clawback stages, I think he needs to actually gain time on Pogi for tomorrow. The thing is, Vingegaard loses 2 minutes.

It's not over yet, the queen stage is still infront of them and they will need to climb to 2800m

@@AtomikGround One of the hypothesis, at least it was considered in the Brazilian broadcasting, is that Visma could approach these weekend stages as a single one, taking it easy today in order to attack tommorrow. Let's see!

Superb counter punch from Poggie. Long way from over but always felt the strength of UAE was going to beat Visma this year. Poggie should sit back now and just react. Not in his DNA but needs to consider it.

So Remco didn't have the balls to ride with Jonas again!?😂 But he is actually doing better than I expected, however just marginally better at climbing than the next half dozen climbers. He can win a GT though with only 2nd rate climbers due to his time trialing. But let's see in a see years...

I’m a Jonas fan but chapeau to Tadej. If he wins Le Tour would love to see him go for The Vuelta but I imagine his legs will be shot. 🎉

Struggling to identify riders in the peloton in a pet peeve of mine as well. The numbers at the bottom of the jerseys are out of date. We need surnames at the tops of the jerseys like other sports.

There are still some strong stages for Jonas coming up ahead. If Pog stays strong through those, I’ll then be convinced.

Why doesn't the World Tour simply offer jersey colours on a first come first serve basis. You send your proposal, they say yes or no. You have until the start of the giro or you're going in brown.

I'm a fan of Team Visma, and I don't want Pogacar to win, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen this time. I think UAE is looking as dominant in this Tour as Sky/Ineos were in their prime.
