The reason Kyle Chandler doesn’t have a movie component to his deal is because he’s gonna die on the television series. Maybe that’s why some other actors didn’t wanna do it because it was just a one and done. We all know they’re gonna move forward with John Stewart as the major Green Lantern so he will be the one to spin off into movie projects down the road. I don’t think Hal Jordan makes it out of season one.

The description of this RoboCop show makes it sound like he’s the villain. I feel like that would be a real interesting direction to take this. A tech corporation creates an unstoppable killing machine with a badge? I wonder what sort of neighborhoods he’ll be patrolling.

Pretty spot on about how to translate the TV deal for Hal, Rocha. People mistook the point of getting a Brolin to start with as being guaranteed a movie appearance. The point of the older Hal has (to me) been always about supporting the rise of the less seasoned John Stew while helping give the show a stronger draw. Not to say Hal wouldn't survive it or get a movie appearance here or there, but it makes sense to elevate a young star as a franchise throughline: John Stewart. In the vein of True Detective as well, John (post Hal) going into a movie to play off Guy Gardner (hypothetically) leaves room for a Lanterns season 2 to feature fresh GLs (e.g., Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz and/or Jessica Cruz, with a bump mid/late season from the now bigger deal actor playing Stew guest appearing). Now, just because the plan was to have casting consistent across animated voice and live action film/tv roles, that never meant every character was being considered to go from an animated appearance or tv appearance onto the big screen, but a smart exec building a franchise would cast with the wiggle room to have the option to bring that unplanned character from a smaller format to the largest, hence, casting that way. Now that Chandler is (allegedly) in instead of Brolin, it is left to be seen if they cast bigger for Stew than they initially planned (assuming we'd ever know) or if they make the movie star draw other supporting characters or antaginists, as opposed to Hal (who could be killed off, disappear mysteriously to later return as Parallax-possessed Hal in a future movie then maybe Specter, retire injured, or simply relocate to a teaching role on Oa and make small supporting appearances here and there in future seasons, other shows and films). Sometimes that means making a TV-only deal and being willing to pay the steeper price if they want Chandler for film (either way, that's a safer gamble than doing the same with Brolin, so his offer may have looked different). Bottom line, it was likely always about the franchise setting up John Stewart's trajectory from rookie Lantern to main Lantern over several projects.

Really disappoint to hear Rocha talk about Latino or other POC representation in other things and then be dismissive about the whitewashing of a Romani character. And, just because you all aren't well-read doesn't mean Wuthering Heights isn't a very very well known novel.
@JohnRochaSays6 күн бұрын
Ah GOH. I’ve read that book multiple times and seen all the versions. It’s one of the most interesting and tragic relationships from those stuffy, old English stories. So don’t bring your bullshit here. Did you stop for a second to think that maybe a white female director didn’t want to make a movie where a man of color becomes a tortured antihero whose all-consuming rage, jealousy and anger destroy both him and the white woman he loved? Maybe she wants to make a white man the villain. That is possible.

that's how I felt with the Jeremy Jahns defense last week. He picks and chooses when to be socially aware. However, I am aware a grey area exists in WH novel regarding his ethnic background- references exist to perhaps romani people, africans, and I also saw latino. I love John every episode casting doubt on someone’s “Star powe”. We’re doing this with Margot Robbie? Really?? The star of Barbie? For me, this just comes to show what I’ve been feeling for some time. People don’t go to the movies to see actors anymore. They just go to see IP.
@JohnRochaSays4 күн бұрын
@@matheuslascasas134 If you listened to my point, you’d have seen I was correct. She has not led a film to be a box office smash. Barbie is not just a Margot Robbie movie. It’s based on a MASSIVE IP with Ryan Gosling and Greta Gerwig directing it. It didn’t make a billion only because Margot was in it. Come on now.
@matheuslascasas1343 күн бұрын
@@JohnRochaSays I did listen to it. My point is that this idea that there are actors out there who put butts in seats for every project they’re in is a little outdated. Someone can say RDJ is a movie star, and I can point to Dolittle or The judge. If I want to question Tom Cruise star power I just have to bring up The mummy or American made. I just think movie stars aren’t really the draw anymore. Hollywood thinks Austin butler is a movie star because people wanted to see an Elvis film. Timmy is a movie star because people were interested in a charming Willy Wonka prequel. And yes, like you said, Margot and Ryan are thought to be movie stars because people wanted to watch a stylized feminist take on Barbie. It’s not the actors. It’s the IP
@JohnRochaSaysКүн бұрын
@@matheuslascasas134 Austin is a movie star because he was fantastic in that Elvis film AND it made money. Timmy was damn good in the Wonka film and it made money. So did Dune 1 and 2. There are stars who put butts in seats and there are stars who are just universally respected for their work and liked. There is nuance here. Movie stars still matter which is why studios are CONSTANTLY trying to create them to lead their franchises. That's what makes the money along with known IP.
