I like how everything is done incredibly neat, clean, and precise. From creating and installling a foam plug for the entire area first, to putting on many layers of glass, and painting the strip back on in between. It looks better than new!

Must've been a special board owned by a guy who didn't mind paying for going the extra mile. Wow, Good work, for sure. Even airbrushed a faux stringer! But what did the job cost? $150?

hey, great tune andi really like the styrofoam template idea. Whats the white stuff that you applied? You also used that material to set the plugs. I gotta do some major repair this week and any help would be appreciated. I only have to replace one plug. Thanks for the upload

After you placed the plugs and waited for the resin to dry, do you sand the plugs along with the leftover qcell resin that? Or should the plugs be nice and snug inside the hole?

Great job! Made me realise I need to leave my repair to a pro and not try it my self. Especially as I would be using a pen knife😂

Wow! Super detail oriented repair! Wouldve much preferred hearing a running commentary thru the steps rather than the crappy brazilian lounge music.

Are fcs original plugs weak because they are not secured with cloth? Just qcell resin?
@canadasb111 жыл бұрын
its just Q-cell/Resin. Does that lip around the new plug just get sanded off? :)

Hi, I was trying to install FCS X2 fin plugs and I mixed 2:1 Epoxy with some chopped fibreglass. The solution became too thick to pour into the "H" hole (recommended by FCS) I drilled out. I poured it in anyway, using a stick I pushed the mix into the pockets that was drilled all the way to just below the deck fiberglass. My Epoxy mix hardened so fast that I did not have time to fit the fin plugs in. When I drilled out the epoxy again to salvage the board, I realised that the EPS foam was burnt by the overheating of the Epoxy. My question is, how do you limit the heat to stop Epoxy from burning the foam? What is the mix that you are using when setting the plugs? Thank you.
@lanzi345 жыл бұрын
I am not using epoxy resin. when using epoxy resin on a eps blank, you need to coat it first with a thin layer of epoxy. Let dry, than you do it.

What was the he doing on the last step starting at 3:55? Is he just putting on another layer of resin to smooth everything out?
@thelordofthedingsrepairs9 жыл бұрын
I was glossing the entire area, including the paint, which is the last step before start the final sanding before polishing it.

what's the white elmers glue looking stuff that you put in the hole before you put the piece of foam in and just after you put the piece in? at 1:02 - 1:12

+Tyler Andersen it's resin mixed with a powder thickener for filling large gaps. Google Q-Cell filler

WRONG, he did not scribe down to the deck
@thelordofthedingsrepairs8 жыл бұрын
+lowballman23 Fyi, when you are replacing the fcs plugs, the resin from the original plugs is there, so the new resin will bond with the existing resin.... got it? You only scrape the deck when you are placing the plugs for the first time on a surfboard.
