This is a brief video lesson on the Cretan Laouto. Hope this helps you learn in less time and with less headache. The wonders of the instrument are infinite, I'd like to teach you some basics of what I have learned through my travels and from many great laouto players.

@UCZosEdX6rwfY4NY54gNxY0g @UCZosEdX6rwfY4NY54gNxY0g It's different from the Renaissance or Baroque lute because it's very ornate & has 8 strings kinda like some of the original lutes but they're steel strings & it's played with a pick, it's called a Lute because of its bowl shape on the back.

In some soundtracks of God of War game from PS2, has an instrument that sounds like a lute or bouzouki, but I've researched and nothing satisfies my conclusion. Example of non-official name soundtracks in KZbin played with this instrument: God of War 1: "Athen's Splendor", "Athen's Sewer"; God of War 2: "The Bathroom", "River of Forgotten"...

Definitely going for some GOW laouto tracks in the future. I feel like it's an exciting and deep sound for video games.

Dear friend Congratulations. very nice what you play. 10 days ago I took a Cretan lute and I'm trying to find out, and I wanted you to tell me if the song you are playing has any other name than the Chanian dance sirtos,because I hear it from others that looks like yours but it is not the same and I like yours more

The plectrums for the cretan laouto is different than the typical ones you may know. These are often very elongated, narrow and thin. You should be able to find it Google search

Hi. What is the difference between the steriano and this ? I think the Critiko is better for Anatolian songs than Epirotian songs ?
@lifelovelute6831
@lifelovelute6831 3 жыл бұрын
They have different tuning and also produce a different sound. I wouldn't say either lute is better but you can learn to play all types of songs on either lute. I think the lute has evolved depending on the region it's from and music from that region. Whatever sounds better to you is the way to go.

I came here to ask the same question, and this thread is helpful. My family is from Epirus originally, and I love the music of that region, but I'm really taken by the Cretan Lauto.

Not exactly. The ratio isn't progressive from G-D ascending but rather is descending to an octave lower.
