Actually it’s the main reason why batteries have to be in your carry on and not in the hold (all airline policies are stating that). Because it’s easier to isolate the fire and extinguish if it’s in the cabin vs in the hold

As a flight attendant I can seriously tell you passengers dont have brains and common sense… it s all over the world not only usa. People come on board feeling all entitled thinking they are right no matter what. I think airlines should change pax privileges and give crew more authority over passengers.

​@TheBooban the issue is that no one on the plane knew what the cause was or that the threat was removed. Bottomline people were putting themselves and personal belongings above others' safety. They would've got their items hours later, after clearing the plane, not days.

Just imagine if that laptop was in the hold … the time it would take to identify that there is a fire, the time to evacuate, the time for the fire crew to extinguish it… well potentially the entire hold with all luggage would’ve been on fire And that’s considering the aircraft on the ground. If the aircraft is in the air .. this leaves 10 minutes max for the pilots to land because the fire/heat cannot be isolated. While if you have it with you, in the carry on, the fire/heat can be easily isolated and it would be a smaller fear than having to land in a plane on fire

It was inside the bag, I couldn’t tell if it was a laptop or something else. That larger flat thing next to the bag probably wasn’t the laptop since it was kind of big for a laptop and it didn’t look damaged.

They have a special compartment to put lithium batteries in. It isolates the fire/heat from oxygen and prevents/stops the combustion. That’s why he shouldn’t have to throw the laptop out. The crew would have dealt with it using that box

People say it looks like a MacBook but that isn’t a MacBook at all, it’s a Windows Laptop, likely an ASUS one, based on the color and size and thickness of it. Macs don’t just explode or catch fire or have battery issues. However, Windows computers will because all the parts are separately sourced and not always made by one company, which leads to quality control issues. BE SMART.
