12:55 Sorin. You miss one thing. You cannot use transistor with the SAME paramaters, because now when you don't have straight/tight/flat floor (solder pads) then the heat of the new transistor will be NOT proper absorb by the board, so the transistor with the same parameters, this time will die quicker, it will be overheating all the time. That is why each time if you have burned tracks/pads - the new transistor will be lifted above the board, so you have to use more powerful one, because then it will be more colder that original one.

Hi Sorin, absolutely incredible. I don’t think its dodgy at all, after all you work without any schematics, and you know exactly where to take the voltage from and where to connect it. Why dodgy, because of a wire? What is a wire, it’s like a track after all, and although you said you will not leave it like this, I think it’s good enough? I think like 90% of the shop will deem this board as no fix. I want to see any of those calling you dodgy, doing a better job. Keep up the good work.

tip is most likely oxidized.. when it turns really dark it's almost always game over.. need replacement tip. a nice cleaning procedure is important, after every use dip it into brass steel wool cleaner, always tin the tip and keep a small layer of solder on it to seal against oxidization. ofc also avoid really high temperatures.

also always test a laptop with a known working linux live system from usb / ubuntu or sth similar.. so you can pinpoint the problem better..

yes this also works 👍 you can, in some cases, bring the tip back to life. i would just buy a new one, doesn't require that much work. but in a situation when you have to finish a job & can't wait, reviving your tip might be the only option.

It looks like that low temp solder. It’s worth buying decent lead-free solder, not only because it is less toxic, but also because it is stronger. Better than using the cheap "trick" solder stuff. 4% Ag is the good stuff. Ecoloy Stannol 713. Also, if you have to use that low temp solder, dip it in some thinned rosin/alcohol paste

The Hakko FX951 you've been using always made me wonder whether it was a legit station. When I purchased my 951 years ago I purchased from an Authorized dealer and have NEVER had an issue with it (except when my tips are starting to show age). One reason I suspected your have a clone is the legit FM-2027 handles (that come with the station) have an LED indicator (transparent ring) on them not a solid plastic yellow ring. I also picked up a clone 951 to test out and although they 'look' 98% identical (does not come with transparent ring led indicator), they tend not to perform as well. Also if you are using low temp solder, contamination of leaded/unleaded and low temp solders can cause havoc on your tip - cleaning can be difficult. And don't get me started on cheap clone T12/15 tips. If you bought your station on Amazon, and it's not passed the return deadline, do it. If it is passed the deadline, determine if it's a fake, and notify the seller/amazon.

I dont know if its fake or not, but his soldering iron did come with idle sensor, most fakes do not have this feature, unless its a very good clone

I replaced the MOSFET, but no display on the screen and computer starts by itself when connecting the charger, then shuts down, starts again, and doesn't shut down anymore. It can be turned off with the power button. Fan starts spinning. Vcore is present. It seems like the ROM chips are getting accessed. What are the chances that the CPU is still good and if so, where could be the problem? It's a Lenovo Legion Y520 15-ikbm. Schematics and boardview are only available from older version 15-ikbn, NM-B191 board. it's kinda similar, many components and their placement match.

Sorin, Amazon is full of copies. I can tell you that here in America the warehouses group all products together once recieved. So, if they buy 100 Hakko units directly from Hakko theg are placed in "Bin A". Then, if they buy 100 "Hakko" units they believe to be real from a 3rd party, they still place them in "Bin A". So when you buy a Hakko iron (or anything at all) it's a lottery as to whether you get a real unit. A buyer has better or worse odds depending on the product. Products that are cheap and easy to fake obviously make your odds of getting a real product less likely. SD Cards are notorious for this! Perfume is heavily faked. Etc. Yet, if you buy a TV or something it'll almost certainly be the real deal. You won't get a knock-off Samsung TV or the like because those aren't easy to make a 1:1 fake of. Hakko? Pretty commonly faked. In fact, outside of a certified retailer of Hakko products you'll almost certainly get a fake. Amazon no longer means "I definitely got a real product". Not at all.
