Lara wrote the lyrics of this song shortly after she was forced to leave Quebec and to relocate to Belgium, for family reasons, after 15 years living in Montreal area. Just a few days later, she already had nostalgia of Quebec, her heart land. "Je me souviens" is the tagline of this french-speaking canadian state: you can find it on all the car's license plate. It's originated from the sentence that is graved on the parliament building in Montreal since 1880s. This sentence is a call to remember the diverse origins of the state and its diverse identity: canadian natives, french and english settlers. The parliament building exposes sculptures for each of the 3 history periods. With this song, Lara wrote a poem that praise the landscapes and the nature of Quebec, the personality and character of the Quebecois . It has become a quite popular song in Quebec and a sort of national anthem there. The last sentence of the song is a promise she will return there (which happened about 10 years later).
