I woke up in a karaoke bar in Tokyo drunk off my ass and was handed a microphone and told “Suzanna San, sing Hey Jude!” To which I replied “Who the hell are you?” and went back to sleep. My one and only experience with karaoke, despite being classically trained in voice for 6 years. I don’t sing in public, especially after drinking Sake with a damn snake in the bottle all night. Don’t know if I could pull off Lara Fabian, ever. I’m an alto/mezzo...plus, my French consists of the f bomb mostly. Slainte!

Speech singing is what you were trying to define. Dolly Parton uses this often, as she tells us the story. There are times when one is listening 👂 to the story and forgets, Dolly is singing for a moment wait.. then realizes she singing. The French language lends itself more to speech singing than English. I do ❤ them both. Very different singers with worldwide acclaims. 🎉

I keep watching your reaction to see you yell at and apologise to your phone. Lol. Seriously, I’m totally addicted to this song as of two weeks ago. I fell madly deeply and hard in love with a man many years ago who discarded me after a short affair. It broke me for a long time. This song helps me purge the anger and despair that never went truly away but also sadly celebrates that I loved that deeply for a short time. Your comments are spot on. It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all...and whisky certainly helps!

En francais je suis malade a un double sens. Oui malade veut dire sick en anglais mais en francais ca peut vouloir dire fou(crazy). Comme quand vers la fin de la chanson elle laisse tombé son micro en criant je suis malade, là c est plus je suis folle. Ca peut etre folle d amour mais aussi folle de folie.😉😉😉

@@mjcole12 I translated this news from a famous encyclopedia (French version), well (Google is my friend) : "The song Je suis malade is inspired by a true heartache of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship. In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. For both, love impose itself in obvious way, but both aren't free: Him is married from 1968 to Daisy Brun his press officer. For her, same, she's married and mother of a little boy. So they love each other in secret for several years and promise to recover their freedoms, but Michele hesitates and finally flees and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. All of his life, family, his friends and career are in France. Lama is desperate, he wants to put his pain into words without succeeding, until the day he confides in his friend Alice Dona: "this story hurts me, it makes me sick". Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona composes in a few hours a melody, which very quickly, she makes the singer listen to. This is revelation and Serge Lama writes almost all of the text at once. He'll say later "The 80% of the song I wrote them in 20 minutes, it's almost a shame. It came out of my heart so much that I right away felt that this song had something that the others haven't got. Another happiness twelve years later, the return of Michèle, free and together, they give birth to a boy named Frédéric in 1981 and marry ten years later. Michèle died in 2016 at the age of 71, victim of a stroke. Her disappearance gives the song another dimension, Lama who has not given up singing it on the stage declares: “Every night when this song arrives, I know this is an obstacle that must be jumped, it usually takes me a minute to get over it: This song deserves to be given everything."

Avec Johnny c'est différent c'était un concert de malade à 70.000 personnes. Là, Lara a exécuté une performance de psychopathe devant un publique beaucoup plus restreint et la chanson, les paroles, son expression faciale, son "body language", la façon dont elle s'approprie la chanson, la façon dont elle raconte cette histoire (on a vraiment l'impression que c'est son histoire à elle et qu'elle a le coeur brisé) etc, rendent sa performance beaucoup plus intimiste.
