You are one of the few people who seems to have recognized that they were serenading her. They weren't singing for her, in that some think she missed her cue to start the song, or along with her. They were singing to her. They were serenading her with a love song. It just so happened to be a love song she wrote and was about to sing for them. And yes, she was singing along with them. If you've heard the song as it is normally sung, it's a strong declaration of love. I love, and admire her presence of mind even while she's stunned, that she "whispers" this song this time and it is just as impactful as a love song. I also really admire the grace and courage she had to accept their gift. It's not easy standing in front of a crowd doing nothing. It would have been so easy to take over the song when she stood up and walked forward and you can actually see the moment she decided to accept their gift. She starts to lift the mic and open her mouth like she's about to start singing but then she turns the mic towards them and closes her mouth. It's incredibly powerful. I mean the entire exchange between her and the audience is powerful. But that moment, that one moment when she makes that choice is, to me, one of the most powerful moments I've ever seen. I cannot imagine what it was like to be in the audience, but even more what was it like for her band to witness that and be a part of?

The back story is Lara was going through a difficult time in her personal and professional life. She admitted in interviews that at this time she had even considered suicide. As a tribute to her, organized through her pianist and fan club, they arranged to sing the song to her. She later stated it was a turning point in her life.

Well, when so many people organize something like this and tell you that they love you, it may make you think that you should not abandon. That was.... wow.

Keep on with your great enthusiasm... and your French lessons! Congrats also to have picked a subbed version which transcribes both the audience part and her (original) part. Otherwise, it is impossible to understand that her fans not only start singing instead of her, but really declare their love to her ("on t'aime" indeed meaning "we love you"). She was really down before this concert, with her heart broken, and you can tell this declaration of love from thousands of fans broke the armor of her self control. Her pianist told her after the show: "You see.. and you said you had nothing to live for. Live for them. Live for the people".

There is another video with the audience singing with Lara that had popped on my feed. What an amazing spectacle to watch the audience take over her song!!!! LOVE LAra!!!!!

Good quality of the clip, and with subtitles! Many other responses are unsubtitled, and many don't dwell on the fact that the audience sings "we love you" while she replies "I love you". It's in French, and that - important - detail is often lost, or must be apparent from the comments people post. Nice reaction by the way.If you want to hear the total package from Lara Fabian as a complete artist, I advise you to react to 'Je suis malade', 'Perdere l'amore', 'broken vow'. Take the live performances, because Lara is a lot better live than on the studio recordings.

Lara had been having difficulties in her personal life and it was not sure if she'd make it to the concernt. Her pianist apparently, according to the legend, had organised this with her fans and the word was passed among the audience that they would do this. That is, even if the song lyrics went 'Je t'aime = I love you, the audience sang 'We love you = ont aime. But probably then also Lara was not able to start the song, and there it went... If you have not reacted to other songs of Lara you should do 'Je suis malade' (I'm sick in French), 'Caruso', 'Broken Vow' -- all from the same concert with pinkish background where she is really young and 'Je t'aime' as in the version from the 1999 World Music Awards where she showed how this song was sang. You will not regret listening to any of them.

They organized it and just before she was going to start singing someone yelled "don't sing Lara", so that's how she didn't even start

Muito bom !!! Sou fã da Lara !!! ◙ 1:34 It sounds like somebody in the audience shouting "Não para, Lara" (don't stop, Lara), but of course it's not, because they speak French there. I don't know what this person is shouting though.

whilst your chosen artist has a very nice voice she has nowhere near the theatre, vocal quality, emotion or drama of Lara Fabian and to say she does is unjust and unfair
