Hi John, Just found your videos last year. Your methods have gained a foothold down here (Delaware) as the best way to catch flounder. We tie our own ultra minnow bucktails and man this really works!!! We mostly use the 5/0-6/0 baitholder hooks on our dropper, bucktail on bottom but plan to try the tsunami glass minnow teasers this season. Thanks John, great videos!!!
@JohnSkinnerFishing5 жыл бұрын
Awesome! It's so much more fun and productive than dragging bait.

I have been watching your video for quite a while and really enjoy them and love the way you tell us a lot of your secrets of catching flounder. I will be fishing the area of the Gulf of Mexico along the Panhandle of Florida and will be using your methods. Your books are great also. My question is, I have looked for the Gamakatsu baitholder hooks but everyone I find do not have the little spikes to hold your grubs. Where can I find the hook you mention? Thanks

JOHN FOR MY MONEY ALWAYS GO BIG, BIG HOOKS, BIG BAIT, BIG FISH ALWAYS !!! i AM REALLY AMAZED AT HOW THE FLUKE PREFER A BUCKTAIL EVEN WHEN THE BUCKTAIL HAS SHITTY ACTION WOW JOHN GOOD STUFF.

John, I've been following you since 2014 and have whole heartedly adopted you methods of fishing for flounder. Bucktail on the bottom and a bait holder hook 12" above on a dropper loop. I tried the glass minnow on the dropper loop last week in Avalon and had most of my fish on the bottom bucktail, but I'm not giving up on the glass minnow just yet. I use Gulp! all the time. I literally just went on line and bought Otter Tails after watching this video. Question: are you seeing more fish on the Otter Tails vs the Gulp? Are you making a switch or just trying to vary things up a little? Thanks
@adamcosta46107 жыл бұрын
John, I'm running a 2oz bucktail with a 3" green mullet 12" down on a swivel and a trailing naked hook 24" behind with minnow or gulp. Been a dry season for me but everyone is pulling them up. NJ
@frankstein4977 жыл бұрын
NICE!!! Is there a reason why you use the larger gulp on the teaser? I always put the smaller one on the teaser and I thought it was because it looked like a larger baitfish is chasing a smaller one.

We had complicated 'flounder rigs' ; lots of spreaders and beads and knots, baited with sand worms. Big weight, straight down in 30 feet of water, back in 1962. How the flounder have changed! - and sand worm - what's that?!
@JohnSkinnerFishing5 жыл бұрын
That sounds like winter flounder gear. These are summer flounder. There are very few winter flounder in this region now. They were extremely plentiful 50 years ago.

@@KEPTIFISHING If he is catching any fluke, he is likely doing it right. Keep in mind it can be very challenging to get keepers from shore, and right now in NY (not sure about NJ), it's hard to get keepers in many areas that should have them.

It amazes me that you guys can use just gulp and catch fish. In Connecticut, at least where I am it's almost impossible. A strip of squid has to be used or you will not get a thing. Any advice on keeping smaller jigs down while drifting. We are lucky if we can hold bottom with 6 oz where I live.

Just my opinion if you release your fluke you should use a rubber net so that the regular net doesn't damage the fluke tail. On the west coast we use a rubber net if the halibut are to small and so be don't damage the tail.

A trick is to keep the fish in the livewell just in case u want to cull, I always do with mine so no meat goes to waste. And they almost never die. Out of 50-70 I've culled only one hasn't swam away

I'm planning to fish for flounder in the Thames estuary, using a 15 cm Berkley Gulp Alive Bloody Nereis Worm attached to a treble hook spinner, which I would simply drag across the water. Is this fishing technique feasible, or is the bucktail a must?
