Large Hail, Damaging Winds, Torrential Rains - Severe Thunderstorm in Fort Atkinson, WI - 8/24/23

Severe thunderstorms erupted along a cold front draped across southern Wisconsin during the late afternoon on August 24th, 2023. Two dominant supercells quickly evolved, fueled by over 5000 j/kg of instability (thanks to temps near 100 and dewpoints in the low 80s) and moderate deep layer shear. These storms produced large hail up to half-dollar sized, as well as damaging winds. This video contains footage of quarter sized hail and severe winds from the western supercell, which impacted areas between Madison and Milwaukee.

Nice shots. Hope the farmers faired well. Went through Mellen WI like that on May 7. It was a rather small shelf cloud with wind and hail. Came and went quick.

I chased this cell too! I was a bit further north near lake mills, had some rotation for a little then lost it pretty quick from what I could see

Yeah, by the time I got to the storm it had gone outflow dominant. Still packed a punch though!

This Storm Passed Over My Location And Had A Very Classic Horseshoe Shaped Mesocyclone But Did Not Produce Tornadoes Due To The Lack Of Streamwise Vorticity At Or Near The Surface.

I got a good view of it as well near lake mills, there was some rotation and clearly defined RFD structure but that didn't sustain very long. Still cool to see though
