Other way around. Months were named after numbers. The old Roman calendar only had 10 months. Oct means 8. October used to be the eighth month. Nov means 9. November used to be the 9th month. Dec means 10, hence December, the former 10th month. January and February were added to the ten months calendar to make it the way it is today. Since they were added before October, those months became the 10th, 11th and 12th months.
