for everyone watching - notice the importance of DEFENSIBLE SPACE around your home! Had there not been a gap between the interface and the brush the fire would have easily jumped to the houses. The gap allows firefighters time and space to save your home. stay safe my CA friends

For me, the best resolution for this is when the summer is about to start, the government should also start deploying manpower to trim all these bushes that grow near the residential areas. It will keep the houses far from fire whenever this wildfire arises. And people should also be responsible for keeping their backyard bush free.

Perfect Teaching Video: 1) Garden hoses do nothing. 2) Defensible space - is everything. Buys you time - for the pros to arrive. 3) Homes built at the top of hills need defenses. Best here - terrace the slope. (So a riding lawn mower can be driven once per week - and cut down all the weeds.) No weeds/tall grass on the hillside - no emergency!

I seriously think places like CA should run advertisements about bushfire safety, While its noble that some people have chosen to stay and defend the lack of preparation astonishes me, In Australia in 2009 we had a bushfire that resulted in 179 people dead in under a week. Ever since then stay and defend is never truly advised by our fire crews any more, get out early before the fire is at your doorstep. The people that died in 2009 often where caught out by the fire as they left it too late to leave. If you do stay and defend, wear natural clothing, hose everything down, and have the means to shelter safely if the fire outpaces you. I know It seems like im some random preacher, but Im speaking from experience, leave before you can see the flames.

Ya its called a dry fog forest look at the cactus at this point let them burn.
@ArumesYT Жыл бұрын
Garden hoses can do a lot more than this when used correctly. Don't use a wide-angle spray/mist at those distances. His water spray never even reached the fire. With my garden hose set to a straight beam I can hit fires about 70-80 feet away. Not saying a garden hose can kill such a fire ofcourse, but at least you'll give the FD more time to save your home.
@donalddodson7365 Жыл бұрын
@@ArumesYT Excellent reminder, thank you. Every gallon of water absorbs about 9,330 BTU's of heat (62 degrees F to steam), and water expands about 1600 to 1700 times as steam. But, it must get to the fire through a huge expanding cloud of heat, smoke and unburned fuel to do any good. Also, exposing yourself to permanent lung and skin damage, even death, may be a foolish trade-off.
@heene3 жыл бұрын
The fire would not have been able to get to that house as the edge of the vegetation was some distance away. Some of the garden furniture maybe. There wasn't a lot of vegetation to burn either and the fire would have gone out on it's own. Still a scary thing to witness though at the end of your garden.
