Oh man. You couldn't get me out of that place. I've been obsessed with arcade games since I was exposed to the old electromechanical games and pinballs in the early 70's. I still remember when the first arcade pong machines came out and it just blew our minds. I used to have tournaments with my friends on that Pong machine at our local bowling alley. I know the history of pretty much every one of those classic old arcade games and have played most of them. I very much enjoyed the way video games were back in the 70's and 80's than they way they are now. It was around the 90's and especially 2000 when I kind of.. noticed that the video game industry was changing in a direction that I didn't really enjoy. There were good games being released, but they just weren't the type I enjoyed. And games and the industry itself was getting more.. exploitative. The way the industry is set up and run now just makes me angry at the entire system. What's really funny is that nowadays, what we call an "Arcade" is just these glorified "ticket games" gambling casinos for kids. Back in the day, those ticket games and rigged payout games used to sit in the corner of the arcades collecting dust because we knew that they were rigged to "payout". And we knew that they were rip-offs. Who wanted tickets? No one played those games. Now, you go to a typical arcade and you don't find any video games, but it's all these rigged "payout games" and "ticket games" that those of us used to shun back in the day. None of us back then would have ever GUESSED, back then, that those pieces of junk would have become the mainstream games of the arcades.

I totally remember that HOLOGRAM game. When my mom went shopping at the mall she'd usually give me 5 bucks and drop me off at the arcade. That hologram game was like 2 bucks to play...which was nuts back in the day. Two plays then you'd have to be one of those sad sacks that just WATCHED other people play. Back then you'd play and have an audience.

I grew up playing much more pinball (& pool) than video games, but I still remember a good many of those - what a collection! Luv the ridiculously goofy game-plans, esp Michael Jackson freeing bound children & forcing bad guys to dance themselves to death. "Whoo-hoo!" And who doesn't love dodging giant death-dealing syringes of doom whilst shaking down hustlers for their stash? I've never played Death Race, but got a big kick out of "Death Race 2000" back in the day - "Heh, there's an old lady w/a walker, & another one in a wheelchair! - how many points?" Running over young mothers pushing babes in strollers earned contestants an extra bonus. How's that for wholesome American entertainment, eh?

Ooh! Old school video games! ❤️ Zaxxon! I had that on my Commodore 64! 👍 Ooh! Old school Donkey Kong! 😄 With Space Invaders it wasn't so much the amount of MEMORY as it was processing power. When all the ships are on the screen the processor has to update the positions of all of them at once, and updating the positions of that many ships on the processors of the time took significant time/ As you cut down each one, the processor stops having to worry about moving the ship you destroyed; by the time it gets down to one it can concentrate on moving that one alone, which takes a lot less processing power, so it moves a hell of a lot faster. So basically Space Invaders took advantage of the limitations of the hardware at the time as part of its gameplay. 😄 Wow! The weapons fire in Asteroids looked impressive for its time! 😮 The Three Stooges game! I thought that was exclusive to the Commodore 64! That was one of the few games for the 64 that actually took advantage of the one bit digital to analog converter in its Sound Interface Device (SID) chip to actually use recordings of the Stooges' voices, unusually sophisticated for the 8-bit computer era... 😄

And this seems like a very large arcade however I would love to see you come to Laconia New Hampshire and try out "Funspot". Its promoted and listed as the worlds largest arcade. Its 3 stories of games with the top floor being the classics we all know and love with classic pinball machines and a recreation of their original mini golf course placed inside for patrons to play. Second floor they have alot of their prize ticket machines and a full bowling alley complete with a candle pin bowling alley. And they have a actual bar with games in it. and they have some more like late 80s to mid 90s games and lil bit more modern pinball machines. on the first floor they have a pizza parlor, more ticket games, the fairly large prize counter, and skeeball, air hockey, and slew of various arcade games. Next door the building they have their bingo hall for folks to play bingo. various other attractions surrounding the area like a go kart track across the street, a rope climbing adventure and zip line kinda ordeal.

I am surprised they didn't have Tapper. Or if they did you didn't talk about it. Tapper was a game made in the 80s where you play as a bartender that has multiple bars they tend to. The object of the game is to send away patrons with drinks off the screen at each bar before they come to the other end of the bar angry and make sure to collect mugs that might slide off the end of the bar. Now what makes it controversial is in the 80s video games were marketed for children as we all know and this game promote Budwiser Beer company heavily which to worried parents could lead to underage drinking. So the company went back made a quick minor change in the cabinet art work and the title and did a quick change in the game's art so it was no longer promoted by a beer company and was now called "Rootbeer Tapper".
