I also didn’t know that there’s a pumpkin festival! How fun! I’m hungry now… I love buying pumpkins from the side of the road here in Germany. It feels so wholesome that they trust you to leave the right amount of money. That people appreciate the farmers enough to do it.

It is incredible how your daughter pronounces the ‚ue‘ so well…..without any accent! Kids soak up languages like a sponge! You give her the best gift: A proper foreign language! She will thank you later! We experience that with our boys although they didn’t like our constant movings from one country to the other (Germany, Mexico, Germany and now the US), because it is hard for them to make real friendships. But, they are now 15, 23 and 27 years old and the world is way more open for them! But they just realized that now!

I think Americans often expect to taste the "pumpkin spice" instead of the actual pumpkin (which is not a strong taste). Pumpkin spice of course does not taste like pumpkin, pumpkin spice consist of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice and ginger, which in fact can be used for anything else, it does not need to be pumpkin. There is no pumpkin in pumpkin spice, it is just different spices. So very often I feel that Americans are surprised by what pumpkin on its own tastes like? I guess most Americans associate the pumpkin spice with pumpkin and so pumpkin without the pumpkin spice does not really resonate? Not sure if I made myself clear, I hope you understand it anyhow 😊
@OurStorytoTell

@@OurStorytoTell I just realized that I have a Hokkaido pumpkin in my kitchen that is waiting to become soup. I also realized that I have never put pumpkin spice (the mixture) in it. I usually only put nutmeg in it. So I am wondering if I should use "pumpkin spice" this time. I am a bit scared though, that I might not like it in my soup. Maybe I just try a little bit in the bowl after the soup is done. My family grow their own pumpkins (different ones) and I believe I am the only one of them who makes soup out of it, while they usually slice it and bake it in the oven to eat it (not as a cake). My parents used to make Strudel out of it too, just like the Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) just with pumpkin instead. Oh an d btw, you do get the pumpkin spice /the mixture) also in Germany. Either the McCormick one in American stores or there is also the brands "Just Spices" , "Ankerkraut" and "Spicebar", that I know of. There might be more. Or you make your own, there are a couple of recipes on the internet that tell you how much of which spice you need. To make it a bit easier here are the german names of the spices: cinnamon (Zimt), nutmeg (Muskat), cloves (Nelken), allspice (Piment) and ginger (Ingwer). Have fun!

I just came across your videos and enjoy them. You will be entering the Advent season with all the Christmas markets soon. I recommend not limiting yourselves to just the big ones in the bigger cities. The smaller towns and villages give you a more intimate feel and they are just as enjoyable if not more so. I spent 3 months during the winter in Bavaria a couple years ago, and explored many small towns and enjoyed them all. Have fun.

@@OurStorytoTell It would be difficult to name a number one favorite, they are all good. I would certainly recommend going back to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and spending the night there so you can also enjoy the Nightwatchmen Tour with Hans Georg Baumgartner. If you plan to head south to the Alps, (best chance for snow), Kempten is really nice. Immenstadt is small, but it was my first Christmas market, so that makes it my favorite. Ettal (Oberammergau) is excellent. Fussen, Bad Hindelang, Oberstdorf.. Just put a map on the wall and throw a dart. You can't go wrong.
