@@Bubi2o11 No. Germany would have kept its place, if there wasn't a change in government - with the new one falling for exactly that neoliberal nonsense. The cut the subsidiaries for homeowners to install new panels and feed the energy into the grid. As a result, the homeowners stopped installing, and the domestic producers collapsed. Only then the Chinese got their opening to outcompete the rest of the market. You see, contrary to popular belief among arrogant westerners, among the top brass mandarins are well versed scientists that are aware of the necessity to combat climate change. So they know, they have to do that, if not for the world, but for China, to survive. And for that, they need to produce PV and wind turbine gear that can be sold to the domestic market, to Chinese customers, for Chinese prices. That these panels also sell well internationally, is a well liked windfall, or collateral damage. The price difference isn't in production efficiency, if anything, a factory in Germany would have higher automation and stricter environmental rules. The difference is in the wages.

It appears to show TWh per year or per day or something. Since the figures do sometimes get smaller it cannot be the overall sum as is suggested. Nice video otherwise!

It is said that Germany made a gift for the planet. From 2004 to 2013, everyone who installed solar got 50 Euro-Cents per kWh guaranteed. This was funded by all german electricity consumers. Because of this skyrocketing effect, the chinese industry began to produce the modules and the price decline began which now offers the whole world solar power for less then 1 Cent per kWh. And the battery development will enhance the effect again. Cost of coal is about 5 cents.

An amazing success that solar has become so attractive for everyone. A huge merit belongs to German tax payers still paying for the critical development phase.
