Ellie was raised in a FEDRA military school, as you will learn further into the episode, they taught her about handling a gun. Unfortunately, they appear to have skipped many important details about gun safety. (Finger does not go into the trigger well unless you anticipate needing to shoot, do not aim a gun at anything you do not intend to put a hole in, bullets go where they are pointed, not where you want them to go, and above all treat every gun as if it is loaded at all times. She didn't clear (empty) the gun before she started playing with it in front of the mirror, she didn't keep her finger out of the trigger well, when she already played with it for a while, she racked the gun, which is part of clearing, to look surprised when a bullet came out of the chamber) _these_ kind of oversights in safety are exactly how a team ends up with accidental shootings before the enemy even knows they are there. The siphon approach Joel is using is, he has a hose to the bottom of the tank, which goes to the gas can, he has a second hose to let air into the tank, and he's plugged the opening so air/gas can only enter or leave through one of the two hoses. By then blowing into the one hose, he created pressure in the tank, which then forced gasoline into the other hose to escape. Once the gasoline is falling in the hose to the gas can, it creates a pressure difference, which causes more gas to follow into the hose, because gravity is pulling it down. air is then let in through the hose he blew into, to prevent the pressure becoming equal on both sides. The "sucking" approach uses only one hose, and does not require blocking the opening, but is going to result in inhalation of fuel fumes and possibly fuel in your mouth. Larissa took the view I did about the Starbucks question. The QZ was built in a city. The city had Starbucks. Starbucks ended like all the businesses in the fall. But if you look back to ep 1, a lot of the signs were still around. No one bothered to go tear out the Starbucks signs and menu boards, survival was more important. Again I come to Ellie and improper gun training. As I mentioned before, bullets go where they are pointed, not where you want them to go. Where she shot Bryan and the angle, the bullet could have torn through Bryan's soft tissue and hit Joel. Realize Joel is on the ground, Bryan is leaned down on top of him, and Ellie shot downward into his lower back. If the bullet hit only soft tissue, that bullet could have ended in Joel's stomach, or the lower portion of his lung. Notice before handing the gun to Ellie and asking her to show him her grip, to begin teaching her, he cleared the gun. Removed the magazine and racked it to clear the bullet from the chamber, in plain sight for her to see. Then he handed her the gun and said "show me your grip" and then proceeded to tell her to keep her finger away from the trigger, then how to stabilize the gun for better control, accuracy, and to make it harder to take away from her. [Apologies, gun safety is a bit of a sensitive subject to me] QUESTION: a matter of curiosity to Weena: Would you take a moment to tell me about those earrings? They are interesting and I suspect there may be a story behind them I am unaware of. (If you don't wish to, or you don't see this question, I won't be troubled. I'm just curious.)

SPOILER ALERT!!! DON'T READ THIS COMMENT UNLESS YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY FROM THE GAME! Another thing they changed from the game is when Ellie tells Dina who was her first kill, it was the hunter that was about to kill Joel, but in this version she says that wasn't her first. The sad part is that I think we're going to find out her first kill was Riley after she finally turned. I could be wrong, but she was only bitten 3 weeks before she met Joel and Tess so to fit in this time frame that doesn't leave many people that she could have shot. Really heartbreaking if you think about it.
