Two things to take into account here. Gustafson had jones on the ropes for the first 3 and a half rounds. The kicks were most definitely accumulating but he was losing. Secondly, the elbows saved jones. That flurry at the end of the 4th round ultimately won jon the fight.
@bars_____7 ай бұрын
And to clarify it won him the fight bcuz it won him the 4th and it allowed him to edge gus out in the 5th.

Can't wait for the Strickland vs Adesanya video. The clips of the press conferences alone are gonna be spectacular. As for this one, I still think it was 3-2 Alex. You'll also notice Jones has a habit in his fights of eye pokes as soon as he really gets hurt. Alex absolutely was the toughest fight Jones ever faced.

One of only 2 fights where Jones was close to getting beaten. This, and his last light heavyweight fight against Reyes.

@hawkeyechambers1868Ай бұрын
What a fight it was close in every round Round 1 was close but I think gus took it because of the takedown and the cut he gave Jones in his right eye, round 2 Jones for sure, round 3 was very very close it should have been a draw, round 4 was gus until the last minute and I think Jones took it from him because of that, round 5 was very close they had the exact same number of significant strikes but Jones edged it by the takedown This fight is the embodiment of the saying "this is a game of inches" because jon beat him by couple of inches and it doesn't matter if someone scored the third for gus because jon would still take 3 rounds that's why I think that the judge who gave 49-46 Jones wasn't out of his mind

Jones used to be existing to watch before he became a point fighters in his late fights at lights heavy weigh.
@117Awesome4 ай бұрын
Agreed, he started off that first title fight with a flying knee and became one of my favorite fighters. After that second Gustaffson fight though he just fell apart. Made so many terrible decisions outside of the ring and then became a boring fighter inside of it that was just trying to hold on to the belt. Such a shame, still the most dominant fighter in UFC history but his legacy could have been so much more.

@russellwestbrookyellingatw93818 күн бұрын
@@nb-rc8nf this one is not debatable at al, Jones was just beating up legends in every single fight before this one, it was so crazy to see someone challenging Jones a bit so people act like Jones lost. He beat Gus 4-1 in this one and destroyed him in the rematch. Reyes is the only one who won 2 rounds vs Jones and it should've been a split decision not unanimus. Jones won that fight with leg kicks and Reyes was basiclly flapping his hands entire fight.
