I remember watching this as an 18yr old and all these years later it still blows me away how amazing this is.

Seriously gifted musicians and professional in their own choice of instrument. No recording studio here, no enhanced technological special effects, just live and real music.

I remember watching them play this live at the time on Parkinson. OMG still as emotional and brilliant today as it was then. Thank God this was recorded - and kept! - for posterity!

May I suggest another beautiful rendition when Mr Adler played “Summertime” with the British jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine. I love this Parkinson video as we can see both of these masters of music. However, the other version has a strong Latin feel and reminds us that when he played he was ageless and energetic. I can dance to it!

I only have an iPad & IPhone at the moment so can’t give you an exact YT ref. no. It will come up if you just use search words “Courtney Pine Larry Adler Summertime”. However, if you’d like to see a live version of Courtney Pine with orchestra and backup singers from 15 years ago, key in “Courtney Pine - Summertime”. He does a jazz arrangement that’s different again from the earlier one with Larry Adler. As a link-in with the saxophone and harmonica, I’d also like to introduce you to Australian Steve Williams, who’s a long time member of John Farnham’s band. He plays the most beautiful clarinet solo on “John Farnham - A Touch of Paradise (High Quality)”. At the end you’d swear that you can hear seagulls on a beach! Then on “John Farnham - Chain Reaction (High Quality) with Steve on the thumbnail he plays the harmonica in such a way that Larry Adler would have been impressed. The third video is “John Farnham - That’s What Love Will Make You Do LIVE 2000”. Steve plays clarinet here but the entire horn trio are phenomenal, especially the trumpeter who used to play in Frank Sinatra’s band. (solo at 4:07) All the soloists are excellent and most have played with John for over 30 years. I hope you like these relevant mini vignettes! All the best from Sydney!

I remember watching Parkinson, because thats what we did, enjoying the interviews with both of these guys and Lilli Palmer, and then they did this - absolutely riveting, it was an ephemeral TV moment which I thought never to be seen again. KZbin thank you.

Larry Adler refused to talk to HUAC. Is that true, or am I dreaming? I picked up the chromatic harmonica a few weeks ago, and I read that somewhere, and it made me cry. Not kidding. I am a bot. Sure. Sorry to be political.

Yep chromatic has sharps and flats . Easy to play than a blues harp. but still hard . But if you want yo know check out guys playing it on here maybe there tell you the root chord or note. But they won't be nowhere near adler,s performance.
