Larry was my grandfather, it warms my heart massively to read such loving comments. He certainly was the greatest in the world, I am so lucky to have sung with him. Grateful to possess his musical genes...evidently they skipped a generation as my Mum could not sing a note! (Think wet cats getting a bath and you can hear her) Thank you for all the Larry Love! He would be thrilled! X Emma

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Adler in London nearly a quarter-century ago, and I came away from our meeting with a most precious souvenir: a miniature Hohner harmonica with his name engraved on it. He was the man who elevated the humble "mouth organ" to a virtuosic instrument.

I had the pleasure to have known him and the honour of having spent a lot of time with him in the last years of his life. When I first met him in the mid nineties I knew of him as the legendary (he hated the term since he was alive and could not have been thus a legend...) mouth organ player. I now remember him as much more than just that: also as a composer and improvisator as well as a remarkable piano player. As he put it to me: "I have no virtuoso technique for the piano but I have a good touch and a good sense of harmony". The result was piano playing of astonishing musicianship and beauty. My private recordings of him playing on the piano Gershwin and other Jazz standard music (as well as some of his own - he would put together a tune practically every day) gives me as much, or even more, pleasure than anything else he did. If only he - or anyone- had taken care to perhaps record even a portion of the countless tunes (which were often very developed into extensive pieces of music)... Just imagine the theme of Genevieve, and then dozens and dozens of themes of that addictive quality which only he ever had the pleasure to hear.

I've heard better harmonica versions of Claire de Lune, but those poor guys weren't Zionist lobbyists like 'Larry, the overrated Adler' so their tunes are lying on the KZbin like amateur trash but his tune is in Hollywood and cheered for.

My dad worked for the BBC in his youth as a sound engineer and met Larry backstage one time. Larry had "blown out" his harmonica and gave it to my dad. The way my dad told it, it seemed to me that Larry was a genuinely personable chap. Not like the stars we have today. Beautiful tune and so soulfully played. Thanks for the upload.

Clair De Lune... ON HARMONICA no less... played more beautifully than most other pianists I've heard. It's due to this guy's credit as a musical genius and artist that transcends the instrument. I think Mr. Adler's sensitive performance would have made even Debussy cry. I enjoyed it in Music For Millions; thank you for downloading it on You Tube. I believe there were concertos written for him. I remember hearing them on vinyl many years ago. ..

anthony williams 1 second ago In 1967 I visited a friend who lived in Esher, a suburb of London, in my old three wheeled vintage Morgan sports car, which had a canvas roof, and was open on sunny days as it was on this particular day. I had arranged to meet in a pub in the area, and at lunchtime, I drove there, with a guitar which I played in the style of Django Reinhardt, the famous French Gypsy , and I carried the guitar to the pub under my arm, and as I entered the vestibule, two very smart gentlemen were leaving the pub, and we bumped into each other in consequence. One of these gentlemen noticed my guitar, and asked me what sort of music I played on it, and I told him about the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who was my hero in music. The Gentleman pulled a harmonica from his breast pocket, and told me that he had played with Django Reinhardt in Paris , France , in 1938. Suffice to say, we ended up playing several choruses of the song : " Sweet Georgia Brown " together, and of course I do not need to tell you who the Gentleman was , his name was Larry Adler, probably the greatest harmonica player ever in the whole world. Lucky Me.
