Lawrence Bird I am from Saugus, MA. and I was born in (77') being a hard core Celts fanatic this was one of my favorite childhood memories!! My Dad was the reason I was/am a #greenteamer and I'll always regret not being old enough for the Epic Careers of Larry Legend & Original Big 3! Being 9 in 1986 arguably the best squad ever obviously I couldn't really appreciate what I was witnessing. That said this 1992 era of the Celtics holding onto their players til the end ill always respect that of our Franchise. The crowds for this type of games were fantastic! The Charlotte series after Larry retired still hurt on the McHale to Brown alleyhoop! this was back when NBA on NBC was everything on Sundays! Larry Larry Larry!!

Of all the Larry Bird performances, this might be his best. This was his last season and basically at this point he was playing with a horrible back and achilles issues. It zapped the last of his athletic ability. The Celtics were an aging team while the Blazers were up and comers. Clyde Drexler was having his best year and they were thought to be the only team to potentially challenge Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Larry showed that by using his basketball IQ he could still go toe-to-toe with the best in the game. Unbelievable performance and likely his last great game before retirement.

I just watched BIRD n his rookie season then to this and you can see dramatically the slow down in BIRDS flexibility and speed. Still by sheer will power and determination he was the force to be reckon with. This is why today's players aren't allowed to do there own house work. Bird could have gone on for years if that damn back didn't give out. He was old school and was tarring his long ass drive way on his own when his back gave out. He would have a beautiful career cut short because of old school thinking. That's why today's contracts forbid players to do things like that. A real shame but he was still the b ball wizard out there.

Bird really struggled with back injuries and bone spurs in both feet the last 4 years of his career. Amazing that he could play at such a high level with 2 bad feet and a bad back. These videos are amazing to watch and re-live thanks. Always wondered how Bird and Lewis got along during the changing of the guard.

@1995 GetJiggyWitIt Hell no they wouldn't and Im a fan of Clyde anf seen many of his games.... Porter is a good shooter, but not great and Duckworth wouldn't even be able to abuse the likes of Drummond 😂 he'd also get pulled out of the paint with his slow ass on the perimeter.

Overall it was better team basketball back then, you never seen guys throwing up a million 3 pointers a game, the passing was better, they got the whole team involved, they drove to the basket more, these guys would school most of todays nba players.

Larry Bird is amazing, as messed up as he was he still had monster games like this. Also, being a fan of the Blazers I cant help but imagine what we could have been if we either drafted Jordan or won the #1 pick and taken Hakeem( or if Sabonis played for us when he was young) Multiple rings either way.

Even with Larry Legend hobbled as bad as he was with injuries and a bad back he proved he could still be a major threat. One of the biggest mistakes a team could make was to underestimate Larry Bird. Larry Legend took everybody to school. How you got home was your problem.

We all know how unbelievably athletic Jordan was....why is he even being mentioned in this video???... This is about the "Celtics" vs "Trailbazers"... sure Bird was at the end of his era.... and yes Jordan was a great, great scorer... and improved his game as he got older....all I know is, when Bird was healthy at all...from 84-89...Bird actually outscored and outplayed-(out scored-passed-rebounded-thought Michael) I was at Birds retirement in the Garden, Jordan even stated that Larry ruined many of his best games...even when they were starting to peak...an Unhealthy Bird, without Parrish, without Mchale in 2 OTs, basically made everyone better and played a great game and they beat the Bulls, just to prove he could do it, beat up, without your so called Hall of Famers, and that was with Pippen and the rest of his championship team... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJ7MmJqBf86lo5o ... ..... it proves, that team play ...real team play always beats the one on one type play... and that is generally what's pervasive today...cause' everyone wants to be like Mike...there was only one Jordan...and like Bird, he is gone now...let it go man...and once a healthy Bird, Magic, Dr J, Malone, Ewing, Olajuwon, Bernard King, Jabbar, on and on it goes were gone and as well their in their prime teams were gone, it was one heck of a lot easier as Jordan was the cream of the crop, a very tough minded player and no one was left that pushed like him, and especially not like Bird, Magic and the rest of the old timers did... In my opinion, they all had good enough teams in their primes, to beat any of Jordans teams.... I was playing, watching, and being coached as a player for years, and I have seen some of the best there ever was play...."all around", Bird is "one" of the best ever... Like it or not... give him his kudos man... Jordan was the greatest Basketball player, especially athletically... but, when Bird was healthy, and in his prime...he always gave Jordan fits... even scoring wise...they had many scoring battles, almost a one on one type scoring battle,so it often didn't matter who had who on each team, and just look who won overall in his healthy days as far as even the scoring goes... and I know everyone always said, people use that Healthy thing for an excuse...how about when he played with a broken eye socket the next night after he got it, he was told to take the rest of the season off...he played the very next night... ...then why didn't Jordan just play with his broken foot???... as Bird did with injury after injury...what's his excuse... never saw him get double achilles surgery and major back surgery and still come back and even dream of playing like this, if only a few times towards the end... .... Bird was just as tough and determined, especially mentally!!! ...Period!!! ... basketbawful.blogspot.com/2007/07/jordan-versus-bird.html ....Just sayin'....

Old video, old comments, but something no one mentions in the comments about Bird is the time he spent coaching the Indiana team. Dude made a mediocre team into a great one without ever shooting a basket, making a pass, or stealing a ball. Larry Bird was one of the greatest basketball players, but he was also one of the best leaders ever in the game.

I saw this game on TV & it was truly memorable. The Blazers came into this game on a hot 9-game (Ithink) winning streak & were just demolishing teams by an average of 13. But...we still have Larry Bird on our side, and he's healthy. Those big, bad, blazer bullies sure didn't know what hit them in this game. Lol Bird, not Magic, not Michael, was the player who inspired me to learn how to play basketball when I was 9. Bought his book about the fundamentals of basketball that time, became a damn good player in my own right and never looked back. Thank you, Larry Legend, my original NBA idol.

It's a shame that Larry Bird could drop 49 with a back that was probably on borrowed time and never had any athleticism to begin with. These 6'9" forwards today are no longer worth a got-dam once their ability to jump out the building goes away.
