regarding MVPS check this out he finished 2nd 3 years in a row then he finshed 1st 3 years in a row then he finshed 3rd, then the following year he finished 2nd again. In the 1980's he had something like about 68% of all votes for MVP in that 10 year span

You said something about Pete Marivich style pass. Well Pistol Pete was on the team during Larry's rookie year. They practiced together alot after everyone else left the gym. So Larry got a lot of Pete's experience during those practices and on the court that year.

Also won the 3-point contest all three years he participated. Dee Brown was pretty good as well. If you notice, in that game against the Pistons, Larry should have never had an opportunity to steal the ball because it was out on the Pistons. It should have been Celtics ball but of course Larry came through anyway. And the late, great DJ, RIP.

With so many great players it is difficult to pick any one player and give them a "goat" label. To appreciate Bird's total game please see any of the passing highlights as Bird threw passes between players legs and could thread the needle thru very small windows. Bird was ambidextrous so he could pass and shoot with either hand and he used this skill to confuse the other team. Early in his career he was on 3 all defense teams ( 2nd team) and led the league in defensive win shares 4 times and was 7 times in the top 5! As a rookie he was the main reason for Boston to go from a 29 win team to a 61 win team = the biggest single season turnaround in the NBA at that time. He won ROY and was 4th in MVP voting. For the next 8 years for the MVP Bird was 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st , 3rd and then 2nd. In his first 9 seasons in games Bird played his Celtics won 534 games and lost 177 games for a win % of 75.1% Bird created the 50-40-90 club and did it for 2 seasons ( 87 and 88) and his 29.9 points per game was the highest until Curry topped it. When looking at other "goat" players, no other player has been a 50-40-90 shooter. And Bird in 85 and 86 just missed the 90% FT. SO I took his numbers for all 4 consecutive seasons and Bird actually averaged a 50-40-90 over 4 seasons. He was 3384 of 6534 shots = 51.79% and 3 pointers = 325 of 784 = 41.45% and FT = 1670 of 1854 = 90.07% and his per game for these 4 years was 28.1 points and 9.7 rebounds and 6.8 assists. Bird was the best all around player we have ever seen!!

I feel like Bird is without a doubt the best all-around payer that BASKETBALL has ever seen and without a doubt the most clutch shooter in history also. -when we talk about the goat I think we should consider at least 5- There are 5 positions on the floor ,although some will have a very close second( you just have to decide for yourself- ME-1.Center-Kareem and close second Russell, 2. Small forward- Larry Bird,3.Power Forward-Karl( The Mailman ) Malone, close second,Lebron . And going by positin( The Legend over both as he played Power almost as much as small 4. Off-guard, MJ and close 2nd- Pistol Pete 5.-Point- Magic-and gotta mention Stockton as leader in assists in NBA history as fairly close , ( but Magic was soo big at point and that meant he could do soo much more at Point than just assist. AWESOME Honorable Mentions-Wilt, Kobe ( gotta be in there somewhere-I just don’t know where- Curry,-gotta be in there somewhere too.Shaq-I gotta give him tie for second with Bill Russell- A ? that has no right or wrong answers , just opinions- But everyone I feel has to have 5- I f I had to pick one it would be Larry Legend for the simple facts- all around best(scoring, 3- pointer, rebounds, assists, best passer, and probably by far his greatest assets -Leadership, led by example and everyone on his team followed his lead of unselfishness, win at no cost, hustle without a word having to be said and also his CLUTCH GENE -as everyone in the building wherever that mighta been , knew who was gonna get it, shoot it and make it a lot, whole lot , more times than miss and then more times than not even let his defender know how, and whereI he was gonna shoot it, cause that just put the knife in deeper -HANDS DOWN-sorry but MJ was the worst leader when it comes to GOAT TALK, Leadership of tyranny more or less, (berating his own teammates, hollering , screaming, ) -Ask Scottie Pippen,Bill Cartwright, Steve Kerr, Pakson-listen to them here on KZbin-well that’s might top-What did I say 5, more like a dozen I guess??????

Young Man, imagine seeing all that in real time! I was a HS & University student when all this was going down. I still remember seeing Michael Jordan's Rookie season. I have things that your generation will never appreciate: Trading Cards. I have the Rookie Cards of every player U can imagine. Basketball/Football/Baseball. I saw Magic/Bird play live when they would visit the Phoenix Suns. I'd drive 120 north from Tucson to see them play. Great times. Today's NBA doesn't compare. Bird & Magic saved the NBA. Plz do watch the Magic Johnson's Documentary.... U seem like a fine outstanding young man. Plz complete your education. Zero excuses, you're now living in the 21st Century & your Cell Phone is a complete Library.

I like when he tells his team mates, "you guys want to win?" "Yeah!" "Then give me the ball." Or "Coach, just give me the ball and tell everyone else to get out of the way." LOL the pure cockiness and confidence and arrogance. But when you can live up to it, hey, OK then. The results speak for themselves!

Great call on the Isiah not wanting anything to do with sportsmanship against M.J. That was perfectly said. To this day I believe if Isiah dosnt pull his teammates and not shake the Bulls hands when they finally beat Detroit in the playoffs, I feel if that doesn't happen M.J. and Isiah would get along much better than they do. I feel Isiah would have been on the Dream Team over Laettner if he just shakes M.J. and the Bulls hands when they lost in the playoffs. Just my opinion. Once Isiah and his teammates walked off Jordan wasnt gonna have anything to do with I.T. from that point forward. That was a BS move on Isiah's part.

How are you young man.. I see you! What's with the extra audio finesse putting some meme vibes in the vid. So yea, as an old head, I can recognize you follow the sport and its legends. During the John Salley spot, he did mention Len Bias (RIP). He was a standout from the University of Maryland. He had been drafted #2 by Boston in '86. What had happened was he partied with some peeps after the draft and died from a drug overdose. Unfortunately, if you heard about his prospects back then.. he had the same size and potential as Michael before he became the G.O.A.T. Now, as for top 50, top 75 etc.. Larry without a doubt is only behind 4 other players IMO.. I got Mike, Kareem, Magic, and Kobe.. But that's my list.

For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was. This comment is for those whom never had the chance to see him play. Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year off in his NBA career. Just think about what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season
