I think out of all players from the past, I'd most like to see prime Larry in the league today. A 6'9 sharpshooter with transcendent passing that averaged double digit rebounds against Ewing, Hakeem etc. He would tear through the league like a buzzsaw.
@TheRealMindCrimeАй бұрын
Oh me too! Can you imagine an unleashed Bird encouraged to shoot the 3? He would kill then kill em in the post whenever they started trapping on the perimeter.

When the Celtics left the floor at the end of the ‘88 series loss to the Pistons, the game was in Detroit and their fans had begun throwing stuff onto the floor and making it an unsafe environment. The Celtics were advised to leave. This was not them starting a pattern of bitter poor sportsmanship. But you never hear that, and the complete game is not available on KZbin

One of those years Bird was only played 6 games because he had Achilles surgery on both feet and an another year had a disc removed from back. Only because bird was injured did they get the upper hand. Not to say the pistons didn't have some great players but bird was better in his prime.

The reason why Larry didn't rehire Isaiah on the Pistons, as coaching staff. Was because he wanted Rick instead. That was his friend. Larry said it in the interview. With Larry, Isaiah and Reggie Miller, that little sit down one. Where they talk about everything.

It wasnt just the Pistons who were trying to take Bird out. It was a pretty common tactic among several teams. Elbows to his face was a common one - two fractured eye sockets, broken nose. Even after it was known he had a broken back, it was easy to see a lot of cheap shots to his lower back, often knocking him to the floor. I watched Bird through his whole career, other teams appeared to stop when he reached icon status. Not the Pistons. Then, they had Jordan. The more things change, the more they stay the same. 2024: Caitlin Clark

He Shouldn't Have Left The Last Little Part Out Of Why Jordan Said Laimbeer & Bird. Because He Said After That; Bird Wasn't Dirty Like Trying To Hurt You He Was Just Sneaky At Times And Might Tug On His Shorts A Little To Try And Slow Him Down, Really He Was A Smart Player. Also Big Damn Deal That Laimbeer Won 2-Titles With WNBA, ha ha ha. For One Thing No One Really Watched Them, I'm A Woman & Still To This Day WNBA Does Not Interest Me. And How Many Teams Did They Really Have Back Then? Laimbeer Sure Wasn't Getting Any Offers To Coach Any Men's Team. And Yes Your Right, Bird Was The Best Coach For Those 3-Years. Bird Was Interviewed (You Might Be Able To Still Find It Here On YT?). And This Was Getting Close To Him Retiring, I Think It May Have Been Between 1988 To 1991? But Anyway, The Interviewer Asked Him If He Would Like To Coach One Day? Bird, Said No. Well, The Interviewing Kept Asking Why & Picking At It To Bird. So Bird Said If He Ever Agreed To Coach, He Would Only Sign Up To Do It For 3-Years. Then He Was Asked Why Only 3-Years? Bird Said I Believe If A Coach Could Really Make A Difference, It Would Only Take Him 3-Years To Do It. So After A Few Years Of The Pacers Bugging & Asking Him To Please Give Them A Try In Coaching For Them. And True To Larry's Word He Told Them, I Will Only Sign A Contract For 3-Years And That's Exactly What He Did & They Knew He Would Not Sign Up To Coach Again. But Even If He Couldn't Get That Team The Win On The Title, He Made Them One Of The Best Teams, Each Year They Got Better & Better With Having Bird As Their Coach. And Yes Bird Did Fire Isaiah. ha ha ha, Which Isaiah Wasn't Helping Them Really Anyway.

Nah that's a thin resume for the hall of fame. His career averages are 13, 9 and 2. In 84 and 85 he had 2 great seasons averaging 17 and 12. Aguirre has career averages of 20, 5, and 3. He was a 3x all-star and 2x champ. Him and Laimbeer both played 13 seasons. If he's not in Laimbeer can't be in. Aguirre had 4 seasons of 25+ppg. One season he had 29, 6, and 4. The other 3 were 25, 6, and 3.
@Amick44Ай бұрын
@@roboninja3194I think Laimbeer vs Wes Unseld is a good question/comparison. And I know Wes was rookie of the year and MVP same season. He was clearly better than Bill Early in his career. But mid-career on? I think it's very close.

Secret Base is an incredible channel! Clara is my favorite she's hilarious. Bill Laimbeer is what new players think of when they want to say Jordan's era had no skill, Laimbeer is a disgusting player also, props to Bird for being blunt and honest and I agree Larry was 100% trying to get the ball to the Ref...did I mention I am a Celtics fan? lol
@Amick44Ай бұрын
Laimbeer was an solid spot up shooter and excellent rebounder. That said, he did a lot of things that were unnecessary and occasionally he paid the price for it. But to say he had no skill either, is not accurate. He was no Bird, Jordan, Isiah but he had useful skills that could help any team.

Pistons were my first favorite team. Only reason at first was because they beat the Lakers (will always hate them) and they were celebrating in the locker room with Raiders flags. I started paying attention to the NBA and especially them because they were a real team who scratched and clawed their way through the big name teams. Chuck Daly is an all time great coach and the team was in lock step with his leadership. Plus they had the coolest nicknames: Zeke, the worm, Spider Salley, the microwave. I even liked Laimbeer because everyone hated him so much and he used it as fuel, even though he had the third ugliest shot in the league (Duckworth from Portland was worse and of course Bill Cartwright)
