@@counterstrike89 totally agree. Jordan had rules changed the league protecting him and Borden used that to intimidate players and refs . Mint to mention 90s was watered down and weaker league than the teams bird played .

Does anyone understand the reasoning behind trash talk? I have a feeling it's to get some players motivated by getting more into the competitive flow. It psyches them up. So all that talk is just a put-on.

Matt, during the years when rodney harrison played safety for the pats, after a superbowl win rodney is coming into the lockeroom saying " no one gave us a chance". The announcers laughed and said " rodney everyone had you favored". Rodneys like us, even if the chip is only percieved it helps. But Larry was otherworldly !

There are probably many reasons for trash talking. In Larry's case part of it is knocking opponents off their game. It irritates them, it could affect their confidence. It's the mental game. Sometimes it's probably the competitive nature coming out.

I think the story goes that during the playoffs, Bird said something to Jordan, who proceeded to make a series of moves, and score easily on Bird. He then said to Larry, "I think we have a understanding" and Larry stopped talking to him.
